Dani Wyss is a family man and a maintenance technician in a Chemicals factory in the Swiss canton of Wallis, but he is also one of the greatest cyclists on the globe.

Wyss is the two-time winner of RAAM (the Race Across America, a 3,000 Mile non-stop cycling challenge from the East coast to the West coast, completed in just eight days), 2012 winner of Race Across the West in record time, and is the holder of various world records in ultracycling.

Sport is a school for life, where you can learn to strive for something and to see it through to the end. These are qualities that you need to progress in your job and your life, too.

What is your greatest challenge in training?
To have enough training time, while working and living a proper family life.

What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
There have been several for sure, but my RAAM 2009 win in 8 days and 5 hours was my biggest to date.

How do you ensure you find adequate time for training?
I set aside each holiday and Friday for training, and for a few hours of sleep, too.

What is the best advice you can give to anyone competing in a sporting challenge?
Never try anything new in a competition, without having tried it out during training.

What drives you and makes you passionate for your sport?
I always want to succeed and give of my very best. I aim for the perfect race.

Do you rehearse strategies, execution, & feelings for every competition?
Yes, I have test races where I put them to the test and, in the run up to the RAAM, for example, I prepare myself mentally on a daily basis.

Do you enjoy positive rivalries with opponents and teammates?
Yes, I think that is part of it, but it is a supportive rivalry. It pushes you to want to be better than your competitors.

Do you draw lessons after every competition towards better performance?
Yes, we analyze everything after every competition, and try to make sure that the next competition goes even better.

Do you think sport is good preparation for life?
Yes- Sport is a school for life, where you can learn to strive for something and to see it through to the end. These are qualities that you need to progress in your job and your life too.
