Nino Schurter is a competitive person, who likes to achieve in various sports. He grew up in Tersnaus, Val Lumnezia in the Romansch-speaking part of Switzerland. His primary passion is mountain biking. Now an avid cyclist for seven years, he can compete professionally. In 2009, he was the youngest world champion in the history of mountain biking, and he hopes to continue to achieve in this sport. He won the silver medal during the Olympics 2012 in London and is cross country mountain bike world champion 2012.

What is your greatest challenge in training?
To stay focused on the goal. Each training session is one step towards the target.

What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
Winning the World Championship in Canberra 2009 as the youngest rider ever.

How do you ensure you find adequate time for training?
As a professional athlete, training, preparation and recovery has highest priority- so you find the time.

What is the best advice you can give to anyone competing in a sporting challenge?
To me, fun has to be the main factor.

What drives you and makes you passionate for your sport?
The combination of endurance and technical skills, and the possibility to train out in nature.

Do you rehearse strategies, execution, & feelings for every competition?
Sure, the races you win are won in your head. It’s really important to rehearse strategy, execution and feelings before each the race.

Do you draw lessons after every competition towards better performance?
I always examine my performances with my team manager an trainer at the end of a race. Drawing learnings is the best preparation.

Do you think sport is good preparation for life?
Yes. It’s one of the best schools of life.
