Ronnie Schildknecht, Ironman champion, is a passionate athlete. He loves to swim, bike and run on a daily basis.
His next big goal is to finish first at the ultimate triathlon- Ironman Hawaii – where the combination of heat, humidity and wind are the most challenging in the discipline.

Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. That's life.
What is your greatest challenge in training?
Dealing with emotions and going through a workout mentally when I am having a bad day and feeling tired.
What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
Having won 4th place at the Ironman Hawaii, and finishing under 8 Hours at Ironman Florida
How do you ensure you find adequate time for training?
Good planning. It is simply the priority.
What is the best advice you can give to anyone competing in a sporting challenge?
Set a goal that motivates you every day, and then go out and make the best of it.
What drives you and makes you passionate for your sport?
Triathlon is so versatile, and therefore there is always something to improve. This makes it interesting and drives me every day.
Do you rehearse strategies, execution, & feelings for every competition?
Yes. Before an Ironman event, I go through the whole race mentally and visualize every possible situation. That relaxes me, because I know how to deal with any issues during the race when they pop up.
Do you enjoy positive rivalries with opponents and teammates?
I enjoy it a lot during training, but in the race, I don’t care: there, I am on my own.
Do you draw lessons after every competition towards better performance?
Absolutely, this is crucial. What I do and how I approach training and racing today is all a learning from my previous good and bad performances.
Do you think sport is good preparation for life?
I think performance sports require a strong will if you are to succeed. Nothing can be taken for granted- its all hard work. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. That’s life. I think I have taken a lot from sports into my daily life. Sports has formed my character today.
