reference 5019

The new Miramar line with its polished ceramic case, hands and chapter ring in beige, and green textile strap was inspired by the colour and material range typically favoured by the military. Thanks to the 51111 calibre, the largest manufactured in-house by IWC, the watch will continue running for a week when fully wound. The sapphire glass is secured against drops in pressure in the cockpit.

Tradition reinterpreted

The new Big Pilot’s Watch TOP GUN Miramar pays homage to the birthplace of the Top Gun legend, the pilots’ school of the US Marines in Miramar/California. From here, between 1969 and 1996, the reputation of the dauntless elite pilots spread throughout the rest of the world. The Miramar line picks up on certain elements of historic IWC deck watches, such as the division into an external chapter ring and an internal hour circle. The shimmering metallic grey of the ceramic case, the beige hands and chapter ring as well as the green textile strap were inspired by the military-style design. The IWC-manufactured 51111-calibre movement is one of the largest automatic movements and, with its pawl-winding system, builds up an 8.5-day power reserve in next to no time. But the power reserve mechanism is smart and allows it to run for only 7 days before stopping the movement. Because of this, the watch is guaranteed to keep perfect time for 7 days when fully wound. The sapphire glass has an antireflective coating on both sides and is secured against sudden drops in pressure in the cockpit. On the back of the case is an intricate Top Gun engraving.

The 50000-Calibre Family

The 50000-calibre family represents a wide range of different movements that have one thing above all in common: their unmistakably large dimensions. They feature some of the best ideas ever to appear in an automatic movement (among them the legendary Pellaton winding system) together with a balance and Breguet spring for maximum precision. Apart from this, the IWC 50000-calibre family with its 7-day power reserve represents a giant leap forward in the history of automatic movements: 1,960 complete revolutions of the rotor wind the movement for a full 7 days.
