The Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition “Volvo Ocean Race 2011–2012” is a functional, highly reliable and elegant sports watch made of titanium that has all the precision of nautical instruments in its make-up. Powered by the rugged IWC-manufactured 89361-calibre movement and water-resistant to 6 bar, the chronograph demonstrates its sporting qualities with a flyback function and an additional flange with quarter-second calibration for recording short periods of time. It's highlights are the carbon-black dial and the titanium case.
A watch designed to pay tribute to the “Everest” of sailing and the achievements of the extreme sportsmen taking part calls for technical qualities that will withstand immense stresses and strains. The Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Edition “Volvo Ocean Race 2011–2012” from IWC Schaffhausen is a functional, highly reliable and elegant sports watch made of titanium that has all the precision of nautical instruments in its make-up and has been created to perfection, even to the tiniest detail. With waterresistance to 6 bar and a screw-in crown with crown protection, the watch is rugged enough to take anything in its stride. It is equipped with the IWC-manufactured 89361-calibre movement, one of the most robust and advanced chronograph movements, and features a flyback function as well as an analogue display with two hands in a subdial for long stop times. The watch is secured to the wearer’s wrist with a black rubber strap with a folding clasp. The sapphire-glass back provides a clear view of IWC’s double-pawl winding, while the engraving “Edition Volvo Ocean Race 2011–2012” leaves no doubt as to whom this masterpiece is dedicated. Luminescent hands and indices combined with the large, well-organised carbon-black dial, contemporary design, a titanium case and forward-looking mechanics make this timepiece the perfect chronograph.

calibre
Developed and manufactured completely by IWC in Schaffhausen, the 89360-calibre chronograph movement features a significantly improved self-winding system and sets watchmaking standards. The design, which occupied an IWC development team for a full 4 years, was necessitated by a revolutionary chronograph display that enables the user to read off even relatively long times – 8 hours and 52 minutes, for example – at a glance: a circular totaliser combines the hour and minute counters as if they were a watch within a watch. Apart from this, the winding system now has four instead of two pawls to transmit the energy developed by the rotor, increasing the mechanism’s efficiency by a noticeable 30 percent. After further development, the movement was known as the 89800 calibre and used for the large digital date and month displays in the Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month.
