IWC Schaffhausen celebrated the world of Filmmaking for the fourth year as the Official ‘Festival-Time’ Partner of the Tribeca Film Festival® (TFF) in New York.

In 2016, IWC continues the tradition of creating a limited edition timepiece dedicated to the Festival. This year, IWC is proud to present the IWC Portugieser Annual Calendar Edition Tribeca Film Festival 2016 . Available exclusively in IWC’s U.S. boutiques, this stunning timepiece features a 44mm stainless steel case, with an ardoise dial and burgundy subdials. A unique engraving on the see-through sapphire-glass case back commemorates the Tribeca Film Festival.

On April 14th at the Tribeca Film Festival® in New York, IWC Schaffhausen celebrated the art of filmmaking and showcased its support for emerging artists at the fourth annual “For the Love of Cinema” gala dinner. IWC CMO Franziska Gsell co-hosted the evening with Tribeca Film Festival founders Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff. The luxury watch manufacturer delighted the 200 notable guests with the presentation of the IWC Filmmaker Award, which went to this year’s honouree, Matt Ruskin. IWC brand ambassadors Scott Eastwood and Dev Patel, and host, comedian Joel McHale, entertained the star-studded crowd before an exclusive performance by JOHNNYSWIM closed the evening’s event.

IWC FILMMAKER AWARD

With the express aim of promoting up-and-coming filmmakers, IWC founded the IWC Filmmaker Award several years ago. IWC presents the award as part of its commitment to the film festivals of Beijing, Zurich, London, and Dubai, and now for the fourth year in its role as Official ‘Festival-Time’ Partner of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Tribeca Film Institute, which supports emerging and established filmmakers with grants and professional development, invited talented emerging filmmakers to submit their scripts for the IWC Filmmaker Award.

The award celebrates the fearless artistry, stunning beauty and supreme craftsmanship unique to cinema by providing $50,000 in production or post-production funds to one feature-length narrative film. The winning film must demonstrate innovation and technical mastery or inventiveness through direction, cinematography and/or editing.

The IWC Filmmaker Award is designed to promote the vision of storytellers of all genres whose work clearly demonstrates that they have gone above and beyond just making a film; they have used exquisite attention to detail and unusual and signature techniques to manipulate the medium, thus creating an unforgettable sensory experience for the audience.

FUNDING

Curated by TFI staff and a select jury, one prize grant of $50,000 will be offered to the film that best fits the criteria of the fund and can benefit from the extra promotional exposure. The awarded filmmaker will be honored and announced at the annual IWC “For the Love of Cinema” Event and on IWC digital and social media channels. In addition to funding, the awarded filmmaker will receive customized year-round support from TFI, including one-on-one guidance and consultation, helping their films to reach completion and enter the marketplace in the best possible position.

2016 WINNER: MATT RUSKIN

The 2016 IWC Filmmaker Award was presented to writer, director, and producer Matt Ruskin for his film Untitled Colin Warner Project. His work has been featured at the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami, and the Institute of Contemporary Art in London. Ruskin’s feature debut, The Hip Hop Project, was released nationwide by THINKFilm and aired on the Sundance Channel. While at NYU, Ruskin worked for Darren Aronofsky on Requiem for a Dream. Ruskin was a consulting producer on the Sundance documentary William Kunstler: Disturbing the Universe and is developing a dramatic feature based on his life story (penned by Oscar nominated writers Jeremy Pikser and Walter Bernstein). Ruskin’s narrative feature debut, Booster, received a Special Jury Prize at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival and was shortlisted for Director’s Fortnight at Cannes.

2015 WINNER: DEB SHOVAL

The 2015 IWC Filmmaker Award was presented to New York filmmaker Deb Shoval. Through the funding provided via the IWC Filmmaker Award, Deb was able to put the finishing touches on her full-length feature – “AWOL” – including hiring a professional editor, renting an editing suite and filming additional footage that completed the project in her original vision. “AWOL” is set to premiere at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival.

2014 WINNER: JAY DOCKENDORF

The 2014 IWC Filmmaker Award was presented to Brooklyn filmmaker Jay Dockendorf for his film, “Naz + Maalik.” With the additional funds that are part of the IWC Filmmaker Award prize, Jay was able to complete his film as it was originally envisioned, and the full-length feature premiered at the 2015 SxSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

2013 WINNER: JEFF MALMBERG

The inaugural IWC Filmmaker Award at the Tribeca Film Festival was presented to Brooklyn filmmaker Jeff Malmberg in 2013. Jeff won the award for his documentary entitled “Marwencol”. An alumnus of the Tribeca Film Institute, Jeff’s approach to his subject matters conveyed a cinematic sensitivity that impressed the jury.
