GIVING A FUTURE TO THE GALAPAGOS

“September 17, 1835. As I was walking along I met two large tortoises, each of which must have weighed at least 200 pounds. One was eating a piece of cactus, and as I approached, it stared at me and slowly stalked away; the other gave a deep hiss, and drew in its head."

IWC Schaffhausen Makes a Home on Madison Avenue

Bringing the legendary craftsmanship of Schaffhausen to the iconic New York shopping street

An epicenter of business and culture, New York City is one of the world’s most iconic cities. Both locals and tourists take advantage of the arts and theatres, renowned chefs and restaurants, and the constant flux of activity that makes the city one of a kind. So it makes sense that it is also home to IWC Schaffhausen’s North American flagship boutique, opened in April 2012 on the famous luxury shopping destination of Madison Avenue.

Encompassing 3,000 square feet, the boutique is comprised of uniquely designed rooms to represent each of the IWC watch families. It offers a respite from the bustle of the city, and a tranquil place to appreciate the craftsmanship and detail given to every timepiece we make.

But once you have selected the perfect timepiece, you will want to know what else the city has to offer. Our New York flagship boutique manager Andrew Malitzis shares some ideas on how to make the most of your time in the city that never sleeps.

3×1

IWC men are accustomed to making their personal style exactly that: personal. 3×1 can help you take this one step further with limited-edition jeans made in-house, as well as a personalization service – denim selection and finishes, or a completely custom fit. The Ingenieur Chronograph Racer (Ref. 3785) would be the perfect watch to match with this style.

21 Club

Michael Williams, one of IWC’s New York Globetrotters, lists the 21 Club as a go-to dining experience: “Good enough for Wall Street’s (the movie) Gordon Gekko (Order the tartare, it’s off the menu but Louis’ll make it for you), it must be good enough for me.”

“21 is a New York City institution, especially for the prep set. If ‘classic’ were a restaurant, this would the place. The food is good, the drinks are stiff and the setting is sublime – just don’t think about showing up in tennis shoes, you will politely be directed to the door. I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Neue Galerie

Amongst the major museums on the Upper East Side, the Neue Galerie is a hidden gem, showing a well-curated selection of German and Austrian art and design. But the real reason to go is for a coffee or spaetzle at the museum’s Café Sabarsky. It overlooks Central Park, but is so authentically Viennese, you’ll soon forget the time and place.

Wythe Hotel

See Manhattan from a new point of view: Brooklyn. The Wythe Hotel, located in Williamsburg, was opened in a former factory that was built in 1901. The accommodations offer sleek minimalist design with astounding views of the New York City skyline. A perfect retreat from a harried day in the Big Apple. The hotel’s aesthetic is a perfect complement to the IWC Portuguese Hand-Wound (Ref. 5454), which would look stylish on the wrist of any hotel guest.

The Highline

Opened in 2009, the Highline is a public park built on a historic freight rail line elevated above the streets on Manhattan’s West Side. Owned by the city of New York, it’s considered a quintessential stop for anyone visiting New York – running from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. After the length of the park, the Standard Hotel’s Biergarten is a great pit stop to plan your next IWC-inspired adventure.
