The London boutique opened its doors in December 2014. Since then, the team has been evolving in the world of IWC, discovering insights into the brand as well as the different watch families.

Each member of them has been asked to introduce their favourite timepiece; a watch that they, as IWC experts, believe is unique.

PORTOFINO HAND WOUND DAY & DATE

The Portofino is one of the most desirable watches in the IWC collection. This timepiece and its iconic name are inspired by the Italian town of Portofino, which is popular among tourists and favoured by the celebrities across the world.

The Portofino Hand-Wound Day & Date reflects the lifestyle of this Southern European town and is a classic model that is both understated and tasteful. It is a timeless design which is beautiful to look at, yet practical to use in everyday life.

With its big date, newly added day display along with the power reserve indicator, it makes it natural and straightforward to determine when fresh energy should be supplied. Manually winding the crown often becomes a moment that owners look forward to all week long. Once completed, the 8-day movement will continue running for 192 hours without any need for any additional interventions.

Personally, I love this timepiece because it is classic and practical. It can be worn in different situations and always looks elegant, quintessential and timeless. Furthermore, distinctive features and handmade craftsmanship of the Santoni strap emphasise the timeless elegance of this model and make it stand out from other watches classical timepieces on the market.

BIG PILOT PERPETUAL CALENDAR LONDON BTQ EXCLUSIVE

Personally, I believe that London is the global capital of business, dining and luxury but most of all good taste. It was crucial that IWC Schaffhausen, a haute horlogerie manufacture renowned for its quality and taste was represented in the heart of this great city; situated in the heart of luxurious Mayfair at 138 New Bond Street. To our pleasure IWC celebrated this occasion with the creation of my favourite IWC timepiece; the London Boutique Exclusive 'Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar’.

This model shares all the inspiration and stories from our famous Big Pilot, initially commissioned for military pilots during World War II. The colour scheme for this model represents London with its red, white and blue detail set upon a beautiful Ardoise dial, a colour unique to IWC. The story behind this piece adds real value for me, this London Boutique exclusive is limited to only 38 individually numbered models. The limitation is engraved on the side of the case, of which the first piece showcased 01/38 in dedication to our location at 138 New Bond Street.

Our famous Perpetual Calendar movement compliments this model. This complication understands the concept of the leap year, thus does not require to be set at all; it is accurate until 2499 and also highlights an accurate moon phase which shows the position of the moon in relation to the time shown on the calendar. It’s a haute horlogerie work of art and something that can be handed down through generations. However, although this is a fine timepiece, it has great value for me in its robustness. The Perpetual Calendar is easy to use, with just the big crown needed for adjustment, and is also powered but a famous IWC 7-day power reserve; something superior to the majority of its competitors on the market. This IWC manufactured movement is also set in a steel case and holds a high of water resistance, thus allowing lucky 38 owners to be able to wear this great model as an everyday timepiece.

I believe our London Boutique Exclusive 'Big Pilot Perpetual Calendar’ demonstrates everything that is special about not only IWC Schaffhausen but our great capital.

PORTUGIESER HAND-WOUND EIGHT DAYS EDITIONBFI LONDON FILM FESTIVAL 2015’

Alberto Girones’ favourite watch is the Portugieser Hand-Wound Eight Days BFI Edition.

It did not take me long to realise that the new Portugieser Hand-Wound Eight Days BFI Edition was the perfect timepiece for me. It got my attention for the characteristic symmetry and simplicity of the silver dial and the beautiful navy blue hands, numbers and alligator leather strap from Santoni.

Along with its classic and elegant design, the timepiece becomes even more unique as it is a Limited Edition in partnership with the BFI to celebrate the 59th Edition of the British Film Festival. I have always been passionate about cinema and that is also one of the main reasons why I felt a special connection to the piece. It pays tribute to all movie lovers and it just needs winding once a week – I usually do that at the hidden coffee house inside the BFI in Southbank, one of my favourite places to relax and enjoy a good coffee.

I do enjoy looking at the transparent sapphire glass at the back of the watch where I can admire the movement with its spring beating; check the 8 days power reserve display and its unique engraving “Film Forever 2015”.

Rob Trueman’s favourite watch is the Portofino Monopusher.

I always look forward to IWC announcements of new watches and especially new movements.

This new movement is particularly interesting because all of the new chronograph modifications to the 59360 movement are on display through the sapphire case back. Often, these levers, wheels and springs are completely hidden or are buried deep within the movement.
I especially like the skeletonised intermediate wheel, check it out! So in the case of this watch, it isn’t just the watchmaker who gets to chance to see all of the intricate mechanism.

From a practical point of view, there is an advantage from having a single controlling pusher/crown. Fewer holes in the case middle reduce external moving parts and more robust, reliable water resistancy.

For all these reasons, the Portofino Hand-Wound Monopusher is my favourite IWC timepiece.
