People say that after ten years of living in the city, you can legitimately call yourself a real New Yorker. Well, I’ve been here for eleven years, and while I’ve put in the time, I don’t think I’ve quite earned the badge just yet. “I’ve lived in NYC since 1993, and can’t imagine living anywhere else. I’m very fortunate that I get to travel all over the world for my work, and those experiences are very much part of what makes me who I am, but there’s nothing like coming back into Manhattan from the airport knowing that our own little world awaits. The collective intelligence of New Yorkers, and their incredible range of passions and pursuits makes this the most stimulating of any city I’ve lived in or visited.

My list of favorite and special things about our city is quite long, but here are a few favorites:”

Evan's Picks

The High Line

“I’ve lived in Way West Chelsea for nine years, and the far West Village before that. Both have been completely transformed by transformation of the barren elevated railway into one of the city’s most innovative and inspiring places. It’s changed the fabric of the city in amazing ways, and I’m incredibly proud of my friend Robert Hammond, who thought it would be a good idea and had the dream to make it happen. A true New York success story.”

Shake Shack

“Danny Meyer is well known to those who love to eat well in NYC, but similar to Robert and the High Line, Danny also had a vision to bring Madison Square Park back to its former glory. Once a sad and unloved place, he helped transform the park into one of the best in the city. Deciding to put an outdoor hamburger stand in it was a stroke of genius. It’s one of the few places I’m willing to wait in line for, and their Shack Burger is one of the best in town.”

3×1

“Scott Morrison is a denim god and his latest project is 3×1. The store sells limited edition jeans made in the shop from some of the best denim in the world. Want to up the ante? You can personalize a pair, selecting the denim and finishes, or go all out and get a pair completely custom fit. For denim nerds like me it’s one of the best stores anywhere, and Scott is unbelievably generous with his knowledge and taste.”
