Mr. Wang Luyan joined the contemporary art scene in the late 1970s. Known as a “project artist,” he was one of the earliest proponents of conceptual art in China. In 1988, Wang Luyan, Gu Dexin and Chen Shaoping established the “Xinkedu Group” (New Analysts Group). Using methodology from analytic geometry, they substituted logic for individual aesthetic processes to create a body of work that conveyed their experiences. In the language of art, Mr. Wang used drawing and design techniques to counteract painting, removing narrative and emotion from the creative process to draw attention to the social realities that are visible but unseen.

His work has been exhibited in China and in many countries abroad.
