I just took another look at the presentation of this watch. It was more than a week ago, I wondered if I now had a different view on it. I also wonder about your views, it has been a bit quiet here about this watch.
I think it to be a very interesting watch that I do not like enough: is this a strange statement? What I do like is the whole technical concept of it, the 89360 movement and that fantastic bracelet, all for an interesting price.
I imagine that quite a lot of people would think this to be an interesting proposition, also because of the price. At the moment about 10 forum members have expressed their interest, as stated at the German forum a few days ago. I could imagine that if this offer was widely known in the world, people might come and share this forum just because of it. That would give the name "collector's forum watch" a different meaning.

Interesting...
After the initial, mostly negative, reaction to the CFW the silence in this forum has been deafening. Probably a very wise decision. I own a CFI and decided not to apply for a CFW for reasons I am not going to elaborate. The funny thing is - I was feeling a sense of guilt about it as if it were my obligation and I was letting IWC and this forum down. As a consequence I went to my AD and tried one in gold, in an attempt to reverse my position. i am still thinking but will not allow guilt to get the best of me. :-)

No new views on CFWDV for me
And when I was in Schaffhausen earlier this morning I was thinking deeply about it. Specifically if only such a small declaration of interest has been shown I am wondering what IWC's response will be. Will they go through the process of offering a very limited version of a new watch or perhaps see more overall positive impact by acknowledging an error of judgement and then reactivate the process with a representative cross section of collectors forum participants.
Mistakes are inevitable and it is how we learn from them and how one can admit it and redesign improved steps to move forward that makes ones experiences enriched.
I genuinely shied away for several days from reopening the subject here. I did this in `order` to avoid reopening any debate given a few very vocal views, occaisionally expressed with a regrettable negativism. However, assuming there can be constructive further comments here, even if some do not like the watch or would have preferred a different model, on the "second" thought issues you raise let me add:
--it really is a very nice looking watch in person, and a model few of us already own --its importance, especially as having IWC's first on-house chronograph calibre as well as the relevance of the Da Vinci to IWC's history, is now often misunderstood or overlooked --it is a Collectors' Forum watch
Now --I realize that some are disappointed: that the watch to them should have been something else or what they have previously fantasized about --a BIg Pilot without power reserve, a special Portuguese, etc. Some of those choices would have actually been much more expensive (removing the power reserve from a Cal. 5000 series movement actually had a surprisingly high cost associated with it, I was told). And I also appreciate that the Da Vinci chrono is not an inexpensive watch.
Still, I would ask that forum members keep an open mind, realize that this model, in itself, really might be a good looking watch, and appreciate the importance of IWC's first in-house chrono calibre, both as a "first" and also for the merit of a sophisticated and fine movement design.
I'm going to get one, and from a boutique and without any special insider deal. I like the watch. I like how it looks and how it works, and I like especially its movement and I like what it represents.
I am sure of that. While I appreciate that the watch is not for everyone, and some are disappointed because they would have preferred something else or that they, as forum members, believe that they deserved something more special, but all that is different than presupposing that this model is -in itself-- an error in judgment. It may be to some, but not to others.
I realize that you didn't intend it, but your post, candidly, can deter others from buying it if they like the watch --either because it either "chills" a purchase (waiting possibly for something else) or presumes as a fact that there was a mistake that should be corrected. Some, do, like the watch and respect it for what it is. Some do intend on getting it. I would think that those forum members don't believe that there was any mistake.
I've talked to key IWC people and suggested that there be consideration of engraving changes to satisfy a few "on the fence" forum members. I do not know whether that will occur, but I've been told that there won't be a different watch offered. Period.
Where IWC does admit a mistake, I believe, is in misassessing the stridency of some of the people who were disappointed. My impression is that also is disappointing to IWC. You're not in that group, and I respect your opinion --but any conjecture that IWC will do something or speaking as if it's a duty to admit something may be counter-productive.

Exactly Michael
I am one of the people still waiting to see in flesh the watch in `order` to make the final judgement. It is a very nice watch one of the many IWC has but never the less beautiful. Perhaps certain changes regarding the engraving could futher enhance the project value. Anyway IWC chose this model for the CF watch and if members were allowed to choose most propbably it would have been something bigger or more complicated, but my father used to say that when someone buys you dinner never choose the most expensive course on the menu... So patience guys let's sit and wait

I have not changed my mind!...
I like the CFII, and spent my first hours of indecision in the pre-dawn of the preview date. I think this will be a watch that I look at in the future, and congratulate myself for purchasing an important piece of IWC history. I received my confirmation and I am appreciative that in a few months time...I will be wearing a beautiful watch that also identifies me as a participant in this excellent forum!
Best regards, Jim

I am trying to love it...
A week or so ago I visited the boutique. I have spent quite some time admiring this watch... 3 versions available at that moment. One is the past year Laureus DaVinci, another black dial with raised pattern on the dial (I think will be similar to this CFW) and an off white dial.
The watch as it stands, is no doubt a stunning piece. All three of them. Not only that, in my opinion, the bracelet will just add a special character to this watch.
However, to my dismay, when I tried it on, the usual "balance" on the wrist is somehow not present. Bear in mind that I have perhaps a relatively small wrist (~6.5"). I am not complaining about the size as I have tried a larger watch such as the Big Pilot and I have no problem with that but simply something is missing here. Perhaps because of the uniquely shaped case? At this point of time, I am still not very sure. Please do not get me wrong, I think the wrist size alone is not a solid indicator, it very much depends on your individual wrist shape and build.
I could only make this humble suggestions, take a trip or two to the AD/Boutique and have a look at the real life piece and try it on.

Guilty! Incredible what these gnomes from Schaffausen can do to a grown man!
But after all, this proves my affection for this Company, it crosses the b`order`s of rationality, but I think it's good.
As MF stated, CF II has many arrows in its quiver, I'll take my time and time will tell.

Roberto

I was just in the neighborhood and notice that there was a new Aquatimer Chrono on display so I just had to go and have a look.
While I was there, I couldn't resist trying the Da Vinci Chrono to see how it looks on my wrist. My AD has the Laureus version which I tried.
I was pleasantly surprised by the way the watch fits on my wrist so now I have some thinking to do :-)
Kind regards,
Clemens
