Hi all,
I recently found an Ingenieur cal 8531 with black dial to add to my collection. Problem is the inner iron case back is missing from the watch. Does anyone know where I may source one?
Many thanks
Neil

Hi Neil,
That is a good looking Inge. My best guess is your only chance to get the correct iron back is to send it to Schaffhausen and let them go over it, service it, etc and maybe you will get lucky and they will have one that will fit. I would also suggest you get the archive papers for this watch. Let us know how the search goes. Nelson
I think the only place you will find one, if at all, is through IWC, and presumably part of an overhaul (by the way, the forum doesn't allow "wanted to buy" posts since it has to be non-commercial).
However, you might want to have your watch checked out by IWC. It does have an Ingenieur dial, but I have seen several non-Ingenieur watches "converted" by unscrupulous sellers to Ingenieurs, including in the UK. After all, if a watch has a Cal. 85xx movement and the Ingenieur dial, it looks like an Ingenieur to many buyers. But technically the watch movement without the inner soft iron case part won't fit well in the case. Also, those inner case parts don't normally develop legs and walk off. There's aspects of your case that don't look exactly right to me, but I could be wrong. If you have a photo of the inside case-back inside that might help too.
I don't mean to alarm you unnecessarily but it's worth checking out.

Absolutely worth checking out...
There is a gap between the case back and the movement - big enough for the iron cover to fit. I know that iron cover on the 8531 is 'flatter' that the cover on the 8341 also... the case is also very thick, 10mm + without the glass.
Unfortunately the picture I have of the movement is worse that the first I posted... but here it is anyways... also added a pic of my 8341 for interest sake...
