I don't know of all kind of new possibilities yet. I visit other fora too, very interesting because you see other brands and opinions too (leading to my newest watch). A compelling reason to stick here, to stay active here? I could say: no reason at all, I just like to hang around here. But the truth is that I like the brand, I like the information I see here, not by IWC alone, but by the forum members, their enthousiasm. to mail and meet with some of the members. Nothing to get really excited about, it is just nice, most of the time.
Kind regards, Paul

Hi David, The forum has become a daily destination for me...so your question is a good opportunity to pause and consider...why? First and foremost, it is because of our "dear and knowledgeable moderator" that I think lends this forum a special touch of quality. I find MF's efforts on behalf of the forum community admirable, and his knowledge is second to none. Secondly, I have found a fine group of men and women who I have come to regard as mentors, co-conspirators and friends. As evidenced by my meeting with Roberto, Cristina, MF and most recently...Hoa Huynh (of the Beverly Hills Boutique)...there are friends to meet in every corner of the globe. Roberto is correct...the shared passion and feeling of camaraderie makes them seem as old friends upon first meeting. Best of all, there are the watches! The Collector's Forum really is the IWC forum, and here is where I find the best information about the watches.
Best regards, Jim

david r. Wrote:Dear all
I just a small question for you:
Given the new options of IWC on facebook and also other, neutral forum options: What is the compelling reason to stay active in this forum? Is it our dear, knowledgeable moderator? Is it the place where you find your collector-friends best? Let's make a rating of the top 10 reasons to stay here.
Regards, David
Well Roberto has summed it up very well. I could make identical statements myself.
I visit other sites as well but I almost never post there. I don't know where Nad finds the time to post on all the forums. And he has a full time job! I am content to post here. I have learned a lot and gradually I have found that I mostly wear IWC watches. Yes, I have and wear others but the ones seen in my pics are my favorites. But mostly it has been the opportunity to meet new friends with a shared interest. And yes, its also a blast watching certain members joust with each other. (You know who you are!!) We can't all agree on everything.

For me, first of all, it's the incredible amount of information I can find in the archives on just about any question I might have about IWC and IWC watches. I don't think there's any other forum out there that can match what's available here.
And secondly, perhaps even more importantly, seeing the passion manifested in this forum reminds me I'm not alone and I'm not insane in my obsession for anything IWC. Every time someone tells me I'm crazy, I simply point them to this wonderful place. :)
My situation differs obviously from others, since I "have" to be here. But let me write briefly about the underlying philosophy, as I see it.
As the person who established the first IWC forum elsewhere (in fact, the first single brand forum), this forum differs from others: simply stated, it is intended to have more and better content. We can't get every news item first nor every opinion, but we have deeper and broader resources. We also have more community-building advantages, including the ability to offer numerous prizes, invitations to SIHH, etc. As such, I don't view us in direct competition with other discussion forums.
But also, having moderated here for 9 1/2 years, there has been a change in audience. Previously, many collectors were more "technical": they understood the heritage of horology in general and IWC's history. They understood how a mechanical watch worked and why some technical features (like, say, a free sprung balance) made a difference. Now as IWC has become more mainstream, there is some shift. There are more style posts, more color issues, more strap photos.
There is, of course, room for all. But Facebook is intended to address by and large a different audience. Here, there can be more in depth discussions and deeper community building. Here, we can have different sections to focus on different interest groups within the community. It is my hope that some of Facebook's "passer by" audience will migrate here and become even more committed IWC fans.

I think it's obvious. This is the definitive resource for accurate, moderated discussion in a friendly community that has withstood a test of time. This brand-sponsored forum has direct ties to corporate resources who ensure that the information dispensed in the course of discussion is accurate - and there is no commercial bias. The other forums/social networks don't really serve the same purpose - and lack the depth, insight, and sense of community that has developed here.

nice post, here the first things came out my mind:
1) Because I love when MF stops a debate saying: "Let's move on, let's talk about IWC"
2) Because Argiris's posts makes me smile, actually, he makes me smile on the phone, via sms, he's my friend ok?
3) Because is the only place where I have real time information about Nad's current position around the globe
4) Because I want to know how deep is this damn cellar to pull out so many interesting things - every week
5) Because without the archive I wouldn't ever known how amazing is IWC history
6) Because if you want to see great pictures of IWC watches, well, this is the place to be!
7) Because if the CFDV is not the watch forumers expected, they don't start crying out like babies do
8) Because I want to know how many IWC watches Tonny can get
9) Because I know a forumer named Antonio and I'm honored to say he's my friend
10) Because in this place I have previews of the upcoming IWC watches, no other place can afford that
11) Because if I meet Jim in Rome for the first time, after 5 minutes I have the impression to talk to an old friend of mine
12) Because MF works for 4, just to help you
13) Because I can obtain technical information about watches I own and watches I dream of also
14) Because this is the place where I first saw a caliber 77
15) Because I attend other fora sometimes but this one is the one I feel I belong to

roberto
