So I drove a couple of hours to visit the closest IWC AD to my home to see what they had. I was hoping to see a Big Pilot and a Galapagos’ AT. Figures they had neither but they did have the blue / coral red (as IWC calls it) chrono AT, the black / yellow & black / white AT and the black / yellow chrono AT. They also had some Portugese and Spitfire models. It was a great experience and I would be happy to share the name of the AD if anyone is interested (steinej27@yahoo.com).
So I’m looking and trying on the different AT’s. They are all great and both the rubber strap and bracelet are excellent. In the end, the AT pictured left the store on my wrist. It didn’t hurt the guy through me an IWC hat out of the blue.
Here’s the down checks: - as you can see from the lume pictures, the coral red minute hand and bezel do not glow very well. Only after charging the lume under a bright light can it be seen in the dark. This may be a disadvantage for serious diving (which I don’t plan on doing). - the chrono hands can be difficult to see under the minute or hour hand. - can’t figure out if it is ok to use the chrono pushers under water.
What I love: - the colors of the face are awesome and blend together extremely well! - it gained 2 seconds in the first 24 hours with off and on use of the chrono (including timing how long I slept last night). - the bezel moves in deliberate minute clicks.
Overall this IWC is extremely solid. The bracelet is awesome and with the 44mm diameter fits my 6.75 inch wrist perfectly. Best of all, my wife commented “it might be your best looking watch”.

The new AT's are awesome. Congratulations on a great pickup. How about a wrist shot from just a touch further back that shows the scale of the watch on your wrist a bit better?

Eric, looks absolutely great on the wrist - and as for the lume, I can assure you now problem there. I've taken my aquatimers on some pretty "serious" dives, and whilst I fortunately never had needed to fall back on the AT's for backup time, I can tell you that the lume comes throuw just fine on night dives even in bad visibility like in the north sea.
Enjoy this new watch - and tell you wife she is probably correct (she knows your collection) and just see how this watch grows on you.

beautiful watch, Eric! although the yellow black seem to be the staple colors for aquatimers' your aquatimer pulls of the contrast of blue and red perfectly fine! is it me or would a brighter orange contrasts better with the blue?
