Hi fellow forum members, In January 17th I will make an attempt to climb UHURU-peak, the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania Africa). Luckily not alone because 33 African carriers are coming with us (a group of ten friends) to set up the base camps, cook and guide us. What IWC do I wear? The climate temperature as well as the altitude varies quit a bit. We start in the tropical forest moist and damp and hot (30 degrees Celsius) and end on the top with approximately -25 degrees Celsius... The altitude is almost 5900 metres above see-level. Perhaps you have a suggestion what to wear. I own two aqua-timers 3536 and 3719, three pilots, the UTC classic, a 3706 chrono and a MarkXII. Last but not least a GST alarm. All these watches should be up to the challenge. What do you think I should take to the top? Since I can not make up my mind, I let the Forum decide. I’ll make a picture of my IWC on the top and post it. Best regards Bas Dekkers

If it is very rough up there, I would suggest Casio G-shock. Or maybe Tissot Touch. Both are great beaters. I might take my titanium Ingenieur Automatic, but I am not sure if I would risk such an expensive and rare watch: not because it would not perform, but because I would worry constantly that it would be stolen, taking part of the fun away.
Kind regards, Paul

Any of your watches on bracelets or rubber straps would be suitable Bas- why not surprise us with a wristshot from the summit? Good luck, be careful and don't forget that getting to the top is only half of the job.

Bas,
You sure pose a difficult question - they are all great watches.
What would/should one advise. Personally, if it was me, and seeing the collection - it would need to be the AT 3536. No frills, single crown - sold, reliable and tough! All the watc you would ever need up there!

Among your collection, I would take an AT. They are durable sports watches and can take a occasional bump and are certainly up to any moisture concerns. If the Inge 3327 were in your collection, that would be my take along. Mine has endured some rough and tough days skiing in Zermatt.
Enjoy your adventure. I look forward to your pictures.

Sounds like a Great Adventure. Can't wait for your photographs.
I would suggest one of your Aquatimers to start the climb, at the "Hot & Steamy Base". Then switch to your Pilot's-Chrono for the "Altitude". Whichever you decide, Have a Safe and Exciting Adventure.

Bas, choose carefully - for the rest of Your life the chosen watch will be "the one I took to Mt Kili" and will remind You of the event at each glance. So take something meaningful. Cheers Brane

Best, - Joe
As for rubber strap versus bracelet: I suppose it's very cold at the summit, in that case a rubber strap would be more comfortable.
Kind regards,

indeed an Ingenieur would be perfect. But in the range we can advice you ; I would take the 3536 with me.
Have a save and exciting trip.
