I've seen this watch, but I don't own it...for a change.
I'm not even sure if it's a Calibre 8521 or 8531 inside of it. But to me it's thrillingly beautiful but I'm not sure why. I think it's a design triumph and a symbol of its times, with panache.

I quite agree, it has some do or die characteristics, some guts like shown by the lug construction. Acoording to the minute lines, that are symmetric in the corner, the watch is square, or almost square. In a way, not wanting to be soft shaped reminds me of the new Da Vinci or Ingenieur.
Kind regards, Paul

I always found these rectangular watches to be very elegant. Thanks for the great photograph...and I have a soft spot for Ivan's white-dialed Cal. 8541B!
Best regards, Jim

Indeed special - but Gents this posting raises a question for me. When I was having my 8541 calibre re-cased (to save a naked movement from being stripped for parts) - the watchmakers told me that they could not leave the 8541 date wheel in place - becuase that would require a concave/hollow on the underside dial plate.
Now I see these (Michaels and also the 2 confirmed 85x posted by Ivan) pictures, and believe I see both flat dials and date windows! So I am confused?
Either way, I do agree these are special watches in this sometime all to round world (ever since I own a Da Vinci.......)

Mark --I'm not enough of a technical expert, but note how all three dials here are thick and the cut-out for the date is below the top surface of the dial. To me that's another way of producing a concave effect (the opposite --raising the rest).
But I've not heard of any need here....I believe there are technical 8541 drawings in the archives, and you might want to check there. Certainly the Vintage Catalog Project contains "fournitures" with part depicted.

hi mic, thanks for your sharing of this nice watch. i think the movement is 8541 or 8541B (thiner version) from 1960's. it is because the date window is closer to the case than the older 8531. cheers vincent

Ivan's pair is a great more contemporary (I think) interpretation that has always looked great with the diamond shaped markers.
Terrific design!
