Several years ago, I reported here on an unusual find –special colored dials made primarily for the Yacht Club, which was reportedly IWC’s best selling vintage watch. To my knowledge, they were produced for IWC but mostly or always never used on actual watches.
I cajoled and even begged the owner of this treasure trove to sell me one. I came close once, but then he changed his mind with one excuse after another. I really wanted a one-of-a-kind Yacht Club, but gave up.
Then I also was interested in the rare manual wind Yacht Club, with a calibre 89 movement. As “Moeb” reported on this forum in 2002, only 725 were produced from 1974 through 1979. The idea was to take some slow selling c. 89 movements and “move” them by putting them into IWC’s best seller. The watch was known as Ref. 2611, and the dealers’ sheet on the model can be found at: http://www.iwcforum.com/Vintage/2611.jpg As you will note, the model came with either a silver or blue sunray dial.
Except, I think, for at least one, which was added this week to my collection:

Argh, I can't see your second picture (just see a blue question mark)- but I want to be green with envy. Hopefully I will be able to see it next time I log in.
Argh indeed. I'm unsure what the problem is, since the image shows when I view the post, trying on 2 different computers/operating systems But here's the link http://www.iwcforum.com/Vintage/YachtClubGreen2.jpg

I, for one, put myself in the column of those who profess to be green with envy over your very cool acquisition! You added a rare beauty to your impressive collection and I would like to see some wrist shots when you have the time. Congratulations, Michael...on scoring this singular Yacht Club!
Best regards, Jim

I am very green, Michael. I have a friend in the States who only wears green dialled watches. He has a Becker LE. That Yacht Club would make him drool. Well done.

An interesting watch. Love the picture of all the dials. That brings up an interesting concept. How about watches with interchangable dials? I am sure some engineering genius should be able to figure out a practical way to do it.

I am 100% green with envy. This is a very rare bird as you clearly state. I would love to see more photos (showing the colours better of the dial) and once you have an extract to learn more. Clearly the extract will have no dial details but it will also help me when I am next visiting the IWC archives to focus in directly.

Very nice set of dials, wonder how the red one would look on a watch. The green one looks nice too, very fitting to this time of year. Are the dials just multicoloured, fumed, or do they have a reflecting sun ray pattern? I saw a beautiful watch with such a reflecting dial the other day, but this doesn't show very well on pictures.
Kind regards, Paul
