It appears that the Forum software resizes pictures, and this leads to distortion in most of the pictures I have posted. Some members seem to be having better results.
What size photo is required to show in a post with least distortion from resizing?

Dick, I hadn't noticed this, but I'd guess that the image you show shouldn't be wider than the frame, which would be a minimum screen width for most computers. If so, an image that's 800 pixels wide should work. I would think that the software doesn't "distort" as much as it resizes the viewing, and that there's no change in proportions. The resolution really is a function of pixel count, size of the image and dpi of the viewing screen.
If I'm correct, the only aspect that changes would be sizing the image. A width of 800 should work.

I have not had problems with picture sizing. I upload pictures which in some cases are 4200x2600 pixels large. Photobucket resizes everything automatically to fit a smaller bandwidth. The pictures still look just fine when transferred to the forum. As Bill stated it usually gets resized to 8oo pixels. But I am sure the aspect ratio is maintained.
The Forum software scales the image to 530 x 398 as in the following image of yours:
Using Firefox right click on the image and click "View Image" to see it in original size and detail. Other browsers probaby have similar functionality.
