The Facebook link shown at the bottom right opens quite a new world. Today there is news about Georges Kern and the Charles Darwin foundation. There is also a discussions possibility, there are a few posts now. But seeing this, possibly free, possibility, it makes you wonder why to put money in a maybe expensive forum where those possibilities can be combined free of charge with the real news. And you can reach the writers of the posts, of course. Any ideas here on the future developments in the fast moving Internet world, when it comes to communication?
Kind regards, Paul

Hi Paul
I think IWC is trying not to be left behind there is a whole new world out there the possibilities are endless and you can never be sure or predict the future just try to be ready for anything it comes your way.
To me it's a silly thought to consider that one media venue "taking over" another when they are both part of the same team and share the different strategies to reach the same ultimate goals. It is not like a football game where one team wins and one team loses.
Both venues have different strengths and weaknesses. There is no doubt that Facebook, in general, is a huge success and a growing phenomenon. IWC must take advantage of that, and has done so well.
That said, this forum has done well, given a generally different audience and different goals. The English language forum has had over 1,900 posts in the roughly 7 weeks it's been open. The audience has expanded, and there has been many newcomers. The average new topic gets about an average of 8 replies (I'd estimate without bothering to do the math), and the average number of views (rather than posts) is staggering. Beyond more numerical growth and success, there is much more in depth here, and much more of a real (and more inclusive) community.
So --for anyone who asks if Facebook has taken over, I would say that the question is misplaced at best. We've done better here with Facebook, and that's the ultimate purpose --to take a larger audience and bring many of the most serious devotees to become particularly invested in a community which constantly engages them. And our numbers, let alone our quality, shows success --but that should be even more expanded upon. Here, on Facebook, and everywhere.

Perfectly stated!

I would like to see similtaneous news releases on both Facebook and this Forum by IWC. The recent announcements of the IWC Portuguese for Portugul and the IWC Shanghai Boutique auctioned watch on Facebook and nothing by IWC on this Forum (although linking by Forum members) is far from satisfactory.
I welcome IWC commitment to Facebook but they need to “lift their game” in the news section of this Forum.

Exactly my thoughts, I couldn't say more or better. I feel a bit "left over" for the news.

Rather than looking at the situation now I try to find out, to discuss the near future, if at all possible. Please, see that my question is "Is Facebook taking over?", not "has Facebook taken over". In my opinion it is quite possible that within Facebook all kinds of fluent communities are built, based on, not individuals just being there on the Internet, but on individuals that already take part in several interest groups. It becomes then so much easier to hop from one community to another, without bothering about web sites, that are relatively closed. So, Facebook could become more of a communications core, where web sites may become more of a repository of information. These two could then work very well together, certainly for such communities interested in products like watches. This may not happen this year, but is the watch company realising this kind of communication taking a competitive edge, like IWC did about ten years ago, when it started to use the Internet?
Kind regards, Paul

You both should know that I wrote IWC slightly over a week ago, requesting that a comprehensive policy be developed on these issues. I was told that I would hear shortly, and do expect there to be progress here.
Kind regards,
Paul
