Visiting this forum, maybe even writing on it now and again, of course watches made by IWC mean something to you. Maybe you like the looks of them, maybe the technology speaks to you. You may be fascinated by the history of IWC. You may stand on the brink of buying your first IWC watch, or you may already own several of them. You may go for the new watches, or you are foremost fascinated by the vintage watches. Maybe it is a mix of the above, or maybe there are other reasons why you like IWC-watches.
So, whether you are a "Master" or an "Apprentice", could you explain how important IWC-watches are to you, and why?
Kind regards, Paul

Important is not the word I would choose.
Don't get me wrong. I love IWC, and have since a Mark XV was my first "good" watch a decade ago. I believe last time I counted, I have owned over 45 IWC's - far more than any other brand. IWC is clearly my favorite. I love the watches and value the many friends I have met through this Forum and IWC watches.
But important? My family is important. Everything else is really a means to making and keeping my family happy and well.
If you took away my house and I had to live in something lesser, I could. If you took away my car and I had to drive a beater, I could. If I had to return to a lower paying less interesting job, I could. If you took away my IWC's and I had to return to wearing a cheap quartz watch (like I did for so many years before discovering that Mark XV), I could. My life might not be as enjoyable as it is, but I'd get by.
But take away a family member? Now THAT'S important!
Sorry to sound a bit cold. But watches are just watches. Family is forever.

Thank you for your clear answer, Dick. Not really cold, I would say, you and I think alike on this point. As about everything is relative in life, with the word "how" we can measure a lot within the boundaries meant.
Kind regards, Paul

I am a watch addict since I didn't even know how to read the watch. I have owned many brands, and my favourite is IWC.
For the following reasons:
- Heritage. - Quality. - Company values. - Look and feel. - Is not as "popular" as other brands. (I like wearing watches that are not in the common awareness of others.)

Hello Paul,
this is a very interesting question, of course family and health are the most important things in life.
I bought my first IWC watch in 2009, before that I owned a few other swiss brands (mostly sold now) but over my first IWC I got the entry to the IWC forum.
No other brand gave me the opportunity of a forum, to visit their factory, invited me to Geneva for visiting the SIHH and showed me this kind of hospitality.
I met through IWC wonderful persons and some of them became real friends now.
Friendship - that is important to me as well and on top I have wonderful IWC watches, too.
This is my reason, why I do have this kind of emotional connection to IWC.

Let me answer my own question. I wonder where others agree or may differ.
Watches have intrigued me all my life, since seeing my fathers watch in early childhood, when I didn't even understand how to read it exactly. Insisting to tell my mother what time it was by mentioning the position of the big and the small hand. Growing up I developed a sense of quality and beauty, certainly concerning watches. Through the mist IWC appeared, apparently making watches of high quality, and looking a bit funny, restrained, and making it very hard to look away. A mysterious aura surrounded this brand, adding to the appeal: owning an IWC made you feel a bit special. Why was this a small brand?
Quite a lot has changed the last few years. IWC is one of the leading brands. The IWC-forum encouraged me to buy a few watches. IWC is the first brand I look at, wherever I am. So, for me IWC is the most important watch brand. That doesn't mean that I like all the watches they make, but after all, you only need one watch! But it is the image of high quality and good looks that does it for me.
Kind regards, Paul

Hi Paul,
Interesting question that changed overtime for me.
I was caught by the brand when I was 13 years old. My father explained that IWC was a really great watch. An article in a young scientific magazine caught again my intention. There they explained the Ocean 2000 and Da Vinci.
When starting.... just any IWC would do... and overtime vintage was my true love. Then came the contemporary... and I must say I like both now.
For years I was on watches 24 for 7 ... but last year other things (house and family) became more important.
I still wear them with great joy. I only pay little less time on the web.

A watch is but a watch. There are lots of things that mean more in life such as health, family and much more. I, myself, am new to the world of watches. I bought my IWC because it seemed to be a good looking watch of high qualiity. Later on I discovered that IWC is a lot more than the actual watch. This forum for example is a way to be part of the community. What I appreciate most is that it is not the watch seen on everymans wrist (like some other popular brands). My watch is important to me - it tells something about me and my values - but it is not the summa of my life. If I get tha chance I will certainly express myself with one or maybe two other IWC:s than the one I now wear!
So, whether you are a "Master" or an "Apprentice", could you explain how important IWC-watches are to you, and why?
Kind regards,
Paul
