A compelling case to return to pocket watches, and to use metal bracelets and synthetic straps. Homo Sapiens has been harvesting other animal species for food, shelter and vanity even before he became sapiens. There is not much sapientia in such wanton cruelty, though.

I am not opposed to using animal products. But those products should be harvested in a way that the animals don't suffer unduly. Quite obviously that is not the same as a "human" way. There is some universal quality in this. Being part of western civilisation I stand for these ideas, but I am aware of the possibility (and reality) that other cultures think differently about this subject. Thinking about it again, it is quite possible that the western ideas are not necessarily the most favourable for the animals.
Kind regards, Paul

On the German IWC forum there is a link to the daily paper of Schaffhausen, where IWC states to be shocked by these pictures, and that IWC only uses leather for their straps that is certified on the method the leather is harvested. It seems these pictures have served as a very loud wake-up call to the whole Swiss watch industry.

That's certainly quite interesting, I've never heard of something like this before. It makes me a little uncomfortable wearing my watch on a crocodile leather currently.
