hi guys, i recently noticed a "scratch" on my iwc top gun. after doing a bit of research, i concluded that it was probably just a bit of metal that got stuck on the ceramic case after i hit it somewhere.
so i tried using a soft cloth, soap, water, lemon juice, and baking soda but i couldnt get the scratch off. finally, as i was really getting frustrated, i used a scotch brite(which i think is made of nylon) to rub the metal off.
i managed to remove it but i noticed that the part of the ceramic (the two edges between 9 and the top gun logo on the case side) where i kept rubbing became a little glossier than the rest of the case which are naturally matte/stealthy.
do you guys think i went too far as to have rubbed some part of the ceramic off and exposed the "glossier" inner layer of the ceramic? are ceramics naturally glossy or matte? do they spray some kind of chemical on the ceramic case to give it that matte/stealthy finish? or did it become glossy because i rubbed off the years off accumulated dirt on the ceramic case?
hopefully, the matte finish comes back after the "exposed" ceramic ages.

Get an ink eraser and carefully rub the area. I have found this restores the ceramic to close to original condition. I posted about this before when I "scratched" my Carlson doppel.

thanks alan, unfortunately, using a vinyl ink eraser didnt remove the glossy-ness of the ceramic. should i just let it "age" a bit more or should i get it serviced or something?

The ink eraser I use has a gritty material that rubbed off the metal and returned the ceramic to as new. I would not attempt any more rubbing. But I am not sure how you would service the ceramic. According to others on this forum the ceramic is one piece and not layered. I think I would leave it alone and see how it looks after a month or two.
