I'm also traveling to Hong Kong shortly, where among other things I'll meet up with Nad, hang out at the Flagship Boutique and then there's a special GTG. Very special indeed...we expect at least 15 Hong Kong collectors, most who are forum participants, plus one other collector plans to join us from Singapore. And it's a good rumor that Kurt Klaus will join us for dinner. I'm sorry to say that we can't accommodate any further guests, but this will be a special GTG. I suspect Nad will provide great coverage here, too --and you might see it covered elsewhere as well.
Nad, as you may have read, is trying to decide on the one and only watch to bring. I told him he needed to bring the new Grand Comp (see Rave's great report in our Contemporary section). There's only one problem with him doing that.... ;)
I know the one watch I must bring --the special CFDV. There's two others in Hong Kong, and reunions are always nice. So for me the question is whether I bring a second watch, and which one. There's three candidates:
As you can see, it's between the Plastiki Ing, the Portofino Moonphase and the Regulateur Tourbillon.
A tough choice...I'll be traveling all over China, and it's not always easy to travel with two valuable watches. And, besides, the CFDV does it all --it's dressy but sporty enough and the bracelet helps.
So --should I take a second watch. And, if so, which one?

The few times I visited a GTG I always asked myself which watches would interest the others most. That would mean the watches about nobody else owns, but might like to buy after seeing mine. Not knowing the others in Hong Kong I'm not sure which one to advise. If you are afraid of problems in China, well, then I would go for the easiest to replace, assuming your watches are insured while travelling there.
Kind regards, Paul

CFDV = Collectors' Forum Da Vinci. At the start of this year a special Da Vinci Chrono was produced for the forum members. It looks quite nice, and the price was sharp, with even a bracelet into the deal. Max 100 pieces. About 15 (exact number not revealed) were ordered: apparently the Da Vinci is not liked enough. It stands as a symbol for the forum friendship.
Kind regards, Paul

When I was in China last year I had few problems with wearing my BPP when I went out. But if I did have any worries I simply wore my exercise Timex and put the BPP in the room safe. In HK I just wore what I wanted and did not worry at all. So I'd bring the Tourby.

If I were attending a gathering with you (again), I'd want to see the tourbillon (again).
I'd love to see the Plastiki, but I think a dressy watch would be a better complement to the CFDV. Tourby also offers a dark dial, yet another complement to the CFDV.

The CFDV has become my favorite travel watch also and I agree...it is an excellent first choice. I think the Regulateur Tourbillon is a unique piece I would love to see again. I vote for it as your second choice. My guess is the other collector's at the Hong Kong GTG will be happy you brought it.
Best regards, Jim

I agree with Paul that a watch selection should also be one that is rarely seen so that it can bring a 'wow factor' when showing it.
Among your selection for that, I think the Tourby fits that bill very well.
As for traveling around China, it 's always nice to strap on something special for dinner, after a day of sightseeing with your CFDV!
Also, I haven't been to a hotel yet that didn't have a room safe (if they are to be trusted, LOL!!!).
Cheers and eleven more sleeps!!!!!
Cheers,
Nad
Anyway, my opinion would be to take the Tourbillon Regulator. It's smaller, and would definitely serve to impress other collectors at the GTG.
