Today I had the rare privelege of attending a very unique watchmaking class. Even more rare was the privelege to learn from the master watchmaker himself, Mr Kurt Klaus.
It was a highly interactive, thoroughly educational, and entertaining class, and I left richer in my knowledge of how watch movements are made, as well as how the individual parts are put together. Mr Klaus is an impressive and patient gentleman, as witnessed when I couldn't quite handle some tricky actions! His personal attention and guidance is truly something to experience, I for one, was humbled.
The class was brilliant and a wonderful route into the world of fine watchmaking. I was excited that I learnt how to take apart a movement and then put it together, and then perform the acid test....make the movement work!! Totally satisfying getting a real feeling of how a watchmaker goes about his / her trade.
But the fun didn't end when we finished making the movement! We enjoyed a fantastic lunch with Mr Klaus and exchanged wonderful anecdotes of watchmaking, choosing, purchasing and wearing delightful IWC timepieces! My kind of heaven!!
I now appreciate even more how my Portuguese was made and will cherish and wear it with even more pride! Watchmakers are an exceptional group of people and what they do is a genuine art.
IWC, thank you so much for giving me this wonderful insight and experience. :o))))
