So today was a good day for me Folks. Those that know me a little, know that I am an enthusiast of the Cal. 85 movement, and I think it's fair to say that most of the vintage watches in my collection, have Cal 85x's - so, automatic movements.
A while back, I acquired a Ref. 304 with a Cal 83 (dated by Schaffhausen as having been sold in 1945) - which I fancied, because of it's dial layout - classic Portuguese lookalike, albeit it a small watch by today's standards. Then some time after that, I saw this really nice '60 era slimline cal. 403 http://www.flickr.com/photos/25419198@N03/5152517740/, and was taken up by how thin the watch was. However, the guy wanted too much money for it - and I needed to pass. Since then I've contacted him twice - and he would not budge. Today, he accepted my offer, and I added the watch (not sure of the reference number - am researching it still (or waiting for the archive extract - but feel free to identify) to my collections.
Went straight by my AD, and sent it to Switzerland for a refurbishment !

Congratulations on the new IWC, new to you that is. Hope you have some before and after photos to share. It's great to see the magic Schaffhausen does with its spa treatments.

Congrats Mark, and what a roller coaster it must have been! Happy ending though and all that wait must have put a bigger smile on your face at the end :) Wear in best of health.

Ivan, Yes - and I am most obliged to Schaffhausen for keeping the cal 85's going. Cannot say the same for my bank manager though, who presumably has quiet a different opinion on this - given the numerous "new" cal 85's that have made it into my collection over the last few years :~)
