Hi, I'm new to this forum as I'm considering buying a mark XVI for my birthday next year. Are you aware of any new or special versions of Mark XVI in the near future ?

The Mark XVI indeed is one of the nicest watches made by IWC, in my opinion. Next year is "Portofino" year, that is, there will be new models in the Portofino line. So no new Mark XVI is to be expected. As for special editions, we only know about them when they appear. Often they are linked to an AD, he has the right to announce. Any reason you want a special version of this watch?
Kind regards, Paul

I must say I like the Mark XVI as it is now. But you never know there might be a special verson of a watch that one likes even more than the regular version. Since my birthday is in February, I still have some time to think about it.

I wouldn't buy a special edition watch for my birthday. But since it is for your birthday, you probably going to keep the watch forever, so why not buy something like the Mark XVI or the pilot chrono and have it engraved on the caseback ! That won't be a special version of it, but it surely will be special to you.

First I was going to buy it for my birthday in February... then I decided that I wasn't going to wait that long and I would buy it for Christmas/New Year... then I bought it last Tuesday and I am already wearing it now:

belated congratulations on your mark xvi. i recently purchased my first iwc watch for my bday last week (and yes, i actually managed to hold out till the day), and it too was the pilot mark xvi. this was a six month journey, and i considered many options, but gravitated towards iwc rather early in the game. the mark xvi just stood out as a timeless piece of understated craftsmanship. the face, the feel and the appearance of this watch is simply astonishing - striking in its simplicity. it is a rare achievement and truly a landmark watch. i could not be happier wearing this piece of art and history. truly a treasure.
