Clepsydra, thank you for prompting our fellow forum members to post all these great pictures. I, like many others in this thread, appreciate both black and white dials.

For me, MF 's post hits it on the head!
My pilot it black (and I took a look at the Spitfires with there lighter dials - and I still prefer the black dial on a pilot). Even if I do have to admit Tracy photo of that BP with white dial looks stunning).
But on my Inge, the white dial (champagne?) is the right color and I must admit that more and more that white dialed Yacht Club is beckoning to me.
And my next watch (an IWC of course) - will have a white dial. But then IMHO, a Portuguese should always have a white dial. WAIT - what did I say? Must correct myself - my next watch will actually have a BLUE DIAL, and guess what - it works for me. So bottom line for me, as MF says 'To my thinking it depends on the watch, and the totality of the design"................

O course Michael is right. and so am I, and so is everybody. It is a matter of opinion. Even green dials have a following. I think that only yellow dials would not have a large fan club, but I would not bet on it. I may not have made myself clear since many of you, arguing in favor of while dial watches gave examples of watches that do not have while painted dials. On the other hand those of you who posted pictures of watches with while/white dials just reinforced my views. Thanks for the spirited replies.

I had my doubts before actually acquiring this one, but the new white dial AT is extremely legible. And I happen to find it extremely good looking, as well.
For the AT, even in bright daylight is extremely readable.
It's lume and the contrast off the white dial are excellent as well:
Although not mine, this one too has great readability and beauty of its own.
As has been said, each person has their own preferences. I see greatness in both black dials as well as pure white ones.

The Yacht club could go either way.

As for painted dials: I wonder what the dial on the Port Auto is made of? It could be paint with some additives?
Kind regards,
Clemens
