A friend sent me this cell phone photo of a large building near downtown Chicago. I've seen such ads in Hong Kong, but I never, ever, thought they'd appear in the U.S., let alone a city such as Chicago. Pretty impressive by my standards.

The day one appears in Austin, I will be doing handstands! That is very cool! I have also seen more IWC print ads in a couple of the magazines to which I subscribe. It appears that "higher profile" advertising is occuring in the U.S!

I think I have seen ads on that building before. Maybe even a big "Go Blackhawks" sign. But not anything from IWC. Hope this is a trend. We need more public awareness so I don't have to explain what IWC means to my non watch friends.

As do I. With one AD in Western Australia IWC is not popular. Yet this is one aspect I like about IWC. There are probably more watch enthusiasts wearing IWC then there are Rolex. It seams everyone with spare change will go into a watch dealer and walk out with a sub/pres/gmt etc. Last month in HK, the amount of Rolex's in display windows on Nathan Rd was astonishing. This is what literally drew me to IWC. Whenever I saw an IWC, I was more interested then the millions (literally) of Rolex watches around. Suddenly Rolex seams common.

Although I enjoy the relative niche of IWC, I would say, don't underestimate the enthusiasm of the Rolex owners. There are other fora too where you can witness this. The segment of these watches differ a bit. There is nothing wrong with the quality of the watches of the other brand, but there are reasons and emotions why I prefer the watches of IWC.

I agree. Without a doubt. I should have been more clear in my statement, I meaning in percentage teams not sheer numbers. If it were possible to do a statistical analysis my money would be that on percentage terms, there are more consumers buying Rolex who know little or nothing about watches then those who buy IWC. I would not be surprised if there were more Rolex enthusiastic in the word numbers wise then IWC. At some-stage I will be purchasing a Yactmaster or Submariner myself. But this could be a long time coming :-)
