I have found a IWC pocket watch in my fathers estate belongings and have no idea how to research the year made of any other information on the watch. I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me. The larger numbers stamped on the inside of the back case is 421741. and on the back of the case is a crest of some sort.

your watch case is dated 1908
is it a crest or is it a set of initials on the back?
post some photos of the watch and also of the movement and indicate the movement number and then further identification is possible from the pocket watch enthusiasts amongst us
IWC pocket watches are generally identified by the type of movement they have, which are called "Calibre" and abbreviated as a cal. or c., followed by the calibre number. Each movement has a serial number, and that usually let's us look up the calibre and date of manufacture. Also an image of the movement identifies the calibre to most IWC pocket watch collectors.
Thanks for your help.

Knowing the date of the case, you might want to browse of the older catalogs around then, on my IWC catalog site:

Just as a guess, you have a c52 or 57 pocket watch (assuming it's around 50mm in diameter, more of less). You can get an overview of basic pocket watch models at

And you can get some more date information by going to

Good luck.
