Hi everybody!
I am new here. I am a watch collector, owning a couple of IWC vintage watches. I found a lot of data about them, but one is ... disturbing me a little bit. It is an IWC 88 (movt # 1,153,074) which dates it back to 1947. The case has # 2,006,053, which seems to be produced in 1971. Also the ref # is R 604, usually for a cal. 89. What is strange is: 1. Lack of concordance between movt & case. 2. The watch has the original case with the name of the owner: Gunnar Westerdahl. Also the back case has the engraving "Gunnar Westerdahl 1927-1952. General Motors Nordiska A.B." which dates the watch back to 1952. As far as I know, General Motors Nordiska A.B. opened on 26 January 1928, and closed as an assembly operation in 1957, so it makes some sense ... but ... The serial # of the case is quite strange for me ..

It seems you have a timepiece that merits further information based on you obtaining an archive extract from the IWC factory. I think they charge 60 SF and you can direct your inquiry by e-mail to info@iwc.com

Ok, thanks for your advice, I'll do that next week. The charge of 60 CHF is not too much for clarifying the situation. I'll come later with news (hopefully interesting news!) about this cal. 88.
