Hi everyone,
This is the first time I come to the forum. I've just purchased an 18K Rose gold Da Vinci Chronograph this week. The watch is completely fantastic. Anyway, I do have a question with the stop watch function. Will it damage the watch if I keep running the stop watch on and on as my second time zone? I tried it last night to see what would happen when the stop watch ran past 12 hour mark. The result was it kept runing as usual. So, if anyone knows if it's okay to keep it running, please post your advice on the page. Thank you.

Several Forum members do exactly as you noted. It will work perfectly as a second timezone and you should expect little, if any, additional wear from doing so. Enjoy your new IWC; it's an incredible watch.

Congratulations - I also believe that due in part to the column wheel design, among other innovative factors in this in-house caliber - that little amplitude and power is lost (compared to alternatives) when running the chronograph - so your watch should run nearly as consistent whether the chronograph is running or not.

Hi everyone,
I've attached what IWC wrote back to me regarding the question I posted last week. Here's what they say:
"Thank you for contacting IWC. You cannot use your watch as a second time zone. If you leave the chrono running all the time. You will damage the movement of your timepiece and this will cause the oils to dry and eventually your timpiece will stop working."
Hope this helps clearing the above question for all of us. Thank you all for your comment.
With respect, the people who answer customer inquiries are not technicians. It is true that constant use ultimately will utilize more oil, but the watch does work when used as a second time watch, and in fact one person here has so used it on several trips. Ultimately, the watch will need overhauling more frequently, given greater oil consumption, but that may not be significant. Other companies (liek Patek Philippe) do not recommend constant chrono use for the same reason.
On many chronographs, operating them for an extended period of time affects what is called isochronism, and therefore slows down regular timekeeping. When I talked to the designer of your movement (cal. 89360) he expressly told me the movement was designed so that timekeeping would not be affected by chrono use.
Therefore, doing it occasionally, and in moderation, might be very different that what some person at IWC told you.

Thank you very much Michael for your advice. It's good to actually know what the watch is capable of doing. I didn't plan to let the chrono running all the time. However, I do travel occasionally and that's the reason why I posted this question. Now I am confident that it'll work safely as my second time zone. Thanks again.

I rather would see IWC to produce some wonderful second time zone watches, like about every great brand does. Of course the chrono can be used as described here, but you have to admit that setting its time properly is a bit cumbersome. Let's hope 2011 gives some of these watches: they were requested here at this forum quite a few times already.

P.S. I've already scratched my rosegold case. It feels much worse compared to when I scratched my car.
