Good day all,
I recently visited my AD, and noticed the above watch.. understand it is also limited to 3000pcs worldwide? This watch was also launched in 2009? or even before? As i understand the latest Da Vinci perp cal is the one with the big date and month?
Would anyone recommend getting this watch in stainless steel??? Furthermore, for a perp cal watch, it must be constantly running right? Would it be difficult to set the date again if it stops? How often must i take it for servicing and do i have to wait for months before the watch comes back to me - assuming I keep it running everyday for the next few years....
PS: i really am intrigued with the beige color dial on this watch...its very very nice...

Some questions :
kusash Wrote: Would anyone recommend getting this watch in stainless steel???
ML: Yes - Whilst typically thePPC's are cased in more expensive metals, this Da Vinci was put out to appeal to those who wanted a PPC, classic disign lines of the Da Vinci and in fact feels just right in Stainless too...(just ask those owners of the Collectors Forum DV - not PPC but Stainless cased and all owners are happy.

ML: No, keepingit running is not neccessary (but is nice) - since this watch is based on Mr. Kurt Klaus famous design for a perpetual, it's actually fairly easy to bring the watch up to date if its been standing for some time. And you can advance all the PPC functions just with the use of those simple controls on the watch.

ML: It's a good idea to have your watch 'serviced" every couple of years. What doe scouple represent - some folk say every 5-7 years, other say if it aint broke dont touch it. IWC themselves do recommend a lube service and cleanup every few years, and I would follow there advise. After all, its an IWC and and investment in a family heirloom. Of course if you go swimming with it every otherday, and wear it "down on the ranch" so to speak at work everyday, in a possibly more aggresive environment, then regular services are advised.

I think the DaVinci Perpetual Edition Kurt Klaus in steel is a great option. It's a limited edition of 3,000 as you noted - worldwide. They may not make 3,000 of them - it will depend on demand. I am not sure they have made that volume yet - it may take some time...
To answer a few of your questions, The watch was introduced in 2008 and is still in production. There is a "bigger" DaVinci Perpetual Digital Date Month which has a new in-house movement - that watch is not the same as the Edition Kurt Klaus, it does not have a moon phase - and some argue whether it's a true "perpetual calendar" (not me, by my defininition).
A new IWC comes with a 2-year factory warranty - so do not be concerned with issues if you purchase from an authorized dealer. As others have stated, you are not required to send this watch out for service "every couple of years" - if it's keeping great time and telling the right day, date, month, year, and moonophase - all syncronized - then you're good to go.
All time and date setting is accomplished by using the crown!!! it's so easy. You will be amazed with how simple it is. If you don't wear the watch for a few days - all you'll need to do is pull the crown into date-setting position and advance the date forward 3 or 4 days - and all the other displays for moonphase, day, month etc will adavance in synch with it...
The DaVinci Edition Kurt Klaus is the FAVORITE of my collection - when Kurt Klaus is with me, things are looking up!!

Thank you all for your very kind replies...really very much appreciated!
I have just bought my BP say about a month back...but am already thinking about this Da Vinci perp cal. I have not even reach 30 yet..so getting a gold / white gold seems inappropriate.. =)
I have not managed to put one on my hand yet so i wouldnt how it looks..but let's see..maybe another iwc for the new year??
Thanks and cheers again!
PS: wonder if Portuguese perp cal has one in steel? =p
