On Sunday, I lodged 3 advance bids for 3 lots. There was a clock and I bid at the low end of the estimate range. The hammer fell on a price 5 times more than my bid.
The second was a Patek. I bid close to the top end of the estimated range. I was 30% short of the winning bid.
The third was an IWC. I bid at the middle of the estimate range. The hammer fell at the bottom end.
Today, I received confirmation that the IWC was mine. I brought the package home this evening. As a teaser, I will give some details about the box. The watch is numbered but it's not a limited edition. Someone estimated that around 125 were made. I think I got it for a good price. It has never been worn. The strap may have been replaced but the buckle which picks up scuffs easily is pristine. The watch itself is immaculate. Of the three bids, this is the lot I really wanted.

Hi Alan,
Now that would be nice. However, this piece predates the Big Pilot. Something from the 1990s. I can't be precise as to which year until I get an extract from the archives. The net is closing in.

Tonny knows his boxes and he's on the right track. Alas, not another Amalfi. It's not a Da Vinci either.
