By purism I am not a fan of marriages when it comes to everything other than the strap (which I find OK to change around - Nad loves to play with his straps).
The dial is very Nomos Glashütte like so I do like the dial - but just not in combination with the rest.

I really like the dial, the combination of the stylized roman numbers and the stripes, the hands: very clean, and IWC-like. The whole watch looks great. How so marriage? The remark that the movement number and case number are checked suggests otherwise.
Kind regards, Paul, wearing steel VC Portuguese

The watch is not a marriage?
The dial is been refurbished. The sticks, crown, case and movement only cleaned. In the catalog of iwc from 1942 (in the libary) you can find these dials.
The movement is from 1941. The case from 1941/1942. The numbering is close (10.000 difference).

It's lovely. It actually reminds me of a watch I really want from the early 40s: http://www.iwcforum.com/Catalogs/1941-42Blue/PAGE_10.JPG (the one on the right). It's like a white, Roman numeral version of that one. I'm sure you'll get lots of compliments on it.
For my education - what is the definition of a marriage (relating to watches) ?
I do not think there is a standard definition for marriage, when referring to watches. I consider a marriage when a pocket watch movement is re-cased as a wrist watch. Repainted a dial that has deteriorated over time (as long as it done at IWC), or changing hands does not, imho, classify as marriage, since in most cases it will be possible for the watch to be returned to the original design.

I thought that a marriage is puting a movement into a new case, and quite certainly when that case is very different from the original one, like from a different brand or specially made. I always think it a good idea to give a movement a second life in a new case, better than letting it lay around. Mark has a special example.
Kind regards, Paul

The cal 83 is without incabloc.
I am very happy and proud to wear it!
And so you should be....it's a smart looking watch. Great shot of the movement in pieces.
Let me know please by separate email ( levi@iae.nl), who was the watchmaker who did this for you, and who restored the dial.
Wear it - it's nice!
Best regards
Mark
