Having recently inherited my late father's prized gold IWC watch, I became curious about its history. I was surprised to learn (after ordering an except of the the archive from IWC) that the original purchaser of the watch was the U.S.Army. In searching the archives of this Forum, I came across a few references to others who had discovered the same thing in their archive excerpt. There were a few theories as to why the U.S. Army was purchasing gold, dress watches...in large numbers....but I tend to agree with this Forum's moderator that the watches were purchased to stock the American PX in neighbouring Germany. How it got from the PX in Germany to my father in Montreal, Canada is still a mystery.
I was wondering if anyone out there can add anything to my search?

I don't know the answer to you questions, but you tell a fascinating story. I am sure you treasure your Father's PW and hopefully you will learn more here on the history of this piece. Please share photos when you can.

PLEASE do not drop this topic/investigation. Behind this post of yours lurks I am sure an amazing and fascinating story. A story which needs to be told.
Please do also post pictures of the watch and the extract of Register - it's appart and would be nice to see.
