Hi everyone, I usually just read through the forum, but my latest acquisition posed some questions I can't answer, so I thought maybe you all could.
I just found a great Cal. 60 that datemyiwc places in 1946. I found the dial style pictured on the far right here: http://www.iwcforum.com/Catalogs/1941-42Blue/PAGE_12.JPG and the case style pictured on the left here (among other places): http://www.iwcforum.com/Catalogs/1941-42Grey/PAGE_06.JPG
So I feel like I'm not necessarily dealing with a Frankenstein. That said, the inside of the case back doesn't have any markings on the inside other than watchmakers' maintenance marks, but it does have a case number on the back, right under "Fond Acier Inoxydable" which is the only other mark on the case. I've never seen a case number on the outside of the case on a 1940s IWC, so this seems strange. And since I can find the case in the catalog, it seems unlikely it was a third-party case. But datemyiwc places the case number (627101) to 1910 - 1920, so I end up confused.
What do you think could this be - a glitch in datemyiwc, a replacement case back, a third party case a numbering screw up?
I'd post pictures if I could figure out how, but I'm hoping this is enough to trigger some buried bit of knowledge.
