Ardoise Wrote:May sound a little silly - but I have collected several dozen IWC watch dials which are just sitting in a box. I took them out to organize today, in order to mount about 16 of them in a glass-frame.2 of them (pictured on the left) puzzle me a little - that's where I need "your" help. The one on the right is clearly a typical Portuguese 5022 Perpetual Calendar Rose Gold. I included it in the photo so you see the baseline "color" of the dial - The 2 on the left are clearly from the "Ref. 5000" Portuguese 2000 era - because the numerals are "stamped" (not applied) and there is no date window on the dial. Not sure if these could be "prototype" or early test dials that the dial manufacturer may have sent - but did not "make the cut". Am I right to assume this is the only explanation for these? There were no limited editions in these colors, right? The one on the left is a dark, cream color - and has the "International Watch Co." in script which you know, in 2000 IWC was phasing out. As far as I know, the Ref 5000 was NEVER released with the "script" logo. The dial in the middle is really a light gray color - but looks more like the 3 dials I recall from the 3 Portuguese 2000 models in Platinum, Yellow Gold, and Steel...

Ardoise Wrote:...In fact, my process of "mounting/framing/displaying" these dials will render them un-usable for watchmaking. I may have them suspended in an acrylic or lucite monolith - or soldered to mounting brackets that will be tacked into a glass-cased wooden plaque....
