Switzerland
Hi everyone! as it is my first post on the forum, let me just introduce myself! I live and study in Switzerland in the french part (Lausanne) and I'm very proud to be the owner of the following IWC. I keep this watch only for Sundays and great occasions! Actually, I'm saving money for the XVI, which looks terrific! (I'm looking for one that could be worn almost every day without damage...)
Still, I cannot find any similar watch on the web, nor on the 1957 catalogue. I might be wrong but the "IWC" logo on the top of the dial seems to have been added (confronting some models of the 57')
If any of you guys could help me indentifying this watch, "just for fun" this could help me to appreciate it even more!
I cannot see your image. I've pasted your url: https://dl-web.dropbox.com/get/Photos/iwc/DSC00120.JPG?w=7f3bcdd9 into the brower and still cannot see it.

Dear all,
I went today to some shops, in order to make it open. They all refused to open it, because of this-->
I understand why, now! (The owner of this watch was a vine-grower, and used to work with some chemicals against mushrooms, etc. maybe this explains that...)
Has anyone here badly damaged his IWC? If yes, I would be curious to see what happened!
So, what do you think? The best solution would be to send it to IWC house for a service, but I guess they will change almost everything, isnt'it? or could it be polished?
Bests
ps. I will not open it myself! so...no expertise for today!
The watch is not so strange nor so antique. It's probably from the early 1970s and the IWC letters weren't added later. You probably can find it or something close in the catalogs from that era (Google "IWC Vintage Catalog project"). Try also a different watchmaker; despite your photos of corrosion, the watch is open-able by a skilled person. And you can work with IWC on restoration.

Hi, I did not meant to induce in error with my post! As I'm a totally beginner, I perceived this watch as "quite old"...anyway, thank you for the answer.

Dont be put off by the state of the case. The photos show a dial in fairly good shape, and my guess would be that underneath the case back hides a Cal. 853 movement (cannot be sure - not enough info to go by). I do concur 100% with MF - you should have it opened and depending on the state of the movement, a refurbishment by Schaffhausen could well be worth the effort and expense.

Dear all,
Thanks to my watchmaker, now we are able to see IWC's bowels!
I took the best pictures I could. I do hope that they speak by themselves! The watchmaker told me that it was in a pretty good shape, and noticed nothing strange.
(here is what is engraved: back 1458263 serial № I guess: 1442856 cal. 852)
I will now search further on this forum about this watch, but if anyone already has ideas, feel free to post!

Good evening,
as i did not have found the exact watch in old catalogs, I wonder if someone could explain me how to use the ref. number in order to give a more accurate date to my watch. I have read that from a specific year there was a different way to give a date with the corresponding tables...

The IWC logo on the dial dates the watch from the late 1960's/early 1970's.
