While travelling internationally. Always lots of time to kill at airports. Most have great watch selections. That is how I initially became interested in watches.

Growing up in a 3rd world country & not knowing much, all I thought about having was a Rolex watch & I knew it was a mechanical watch. 12 yrs ago, I moved to the U.S. & 8 yrs ago, I was lucky enough to obtain a 2-tone GMT Rolex. I must've grown out of my Rolex watch & decided IWC would be my next fine watch. At the moment, I am in a position to acquire at least the New Pilot Chrono 3777 but intrigued by the Spitfire 3878 (almost double 3777's price). I know the Spitfire is an In-House movement, but, I may sound dumb as it may, my question is, BY THE TIME THE WATCH IS DUE FOR COMPLETE OVERHAUL FOR CLEANING WHICH IS AROUND 4-5 YRS AS SUGGESTED, WOULD THE SPITFIRE, BEING AN IN-HOUSE MOVEMENT BE SENT TO SCHAFFHAUSEN TO HAVE IT OVERHAULED/CLEANED?... I just want to know the long-term benefits of being an In-House movement...Thanks guys in advance for educating me.

In 1998 I had a Ferrari 348 challenge, and during a Ferrari get together I met one guy wearing a Girard Perregaux Ferrari 8020 model.... And a few month after I got married and ask my wife to get me my first nice watch. Then I started getting passionate about watches, reading books, magazines, and then after having bought a few watches, one day I was checking on faubourg St Honoré and I saw at Chronopassion (the famous shop) for the first time the IWC PPC rose Gold.... That was a revelation... I told myself that I was to found the way to buy this very expensive watch.... It took me a few months and some good business deals, and I got this fantastic Perpertual Calendar Portugese watch , and I have it since almost 10 years, no service so far this is an amazing watch...I went twice to Shaffhausen to the holly land, did not ge the chance to visit the factury , but I saw the water falls.... regards
My IWC is a vintage watch from my grandfather in 1960's in Berlin. But I don't know exactly what is the model. The watch is very simple with just a hour, minute and second (no date), manuel winding and it's in yellow gold. This watch is for me a beginning of my fascination for mechanical watches.

First of all i am a watch technician this is why im bying a damage watch (pre-owned) i notice the value of this is valuable when i open the watch then i saw a logo " IWC " inside!then a word "Platinum" plus a case num:54*** and mov.num:150**** then a C.853 model then i study IWC watches and i create an account then i keep on studying this watch in this site for about 2 months straight-since i create a acc. here!
And now,im almost complete my research in the history about this unique watch..

I just got the watch addiction last year after I first bought my 'R' Brand mechanical watch. Last month I bought another Mechanical watch with Chronograph rubber strap watch -brand 'C'. And yesterday I finally acquired my favourite classic alligator strap IWC Portofino Automatic white dial, reference 356501. I just love the looks of it and can't wait to wear it for the next formal occasion.

My love of watches began from an early age and one of my first memories as a child is my grandfather opening the rear case of his gold pocket watch and i could see the jewels and working parts that looked so complicated. I was given the watch after my grandfather died however the scum and low life burglar who broke into my house while i was working overseas and stole my prized possession (amongst many other things) will never know the pain they caused. (the scumbag was later killed whilst driving a stolen car in a high speed chase and being pursued by police so i took some solace from that...that is the gospel truth and i appologise if that comment offends anyone) however i digress..... My grandfathers surname was Wilson and i inherited this too (as a middle name) and my initials are IWC. I maintained an interest in fine watches and like many others, I aspired to own a rolex.. i bought my first quality watch, a rolex sea dweller when i was 21 and wore the watch almost daily. I Also own a tag, which is by far the best timekeeper of any of my watches and gaines approximately 2 seconds per month, however i was ignorant of the IWC brand untill recently as the region of England where i live have only 2 authorised retailers. I have resaerched the brand and it only seems right and fitting that i should have one and am seeking the IWC PORTUGUESE CHRONO AUTOMATIC 3714 as my chosen venture into the IWC 'brand' and would welcome any suggestions or opinions???? I do like the classic look with the brown strap and gold numers set against the white face.. I recently had a full new strap, bezel, chrystal and entire refurb carried out on my rolex, the watch is no longer in production and the refurb cost more than the original purchase price, evidencing that a quality watch remains a sound investment, but agree whole-heartedly that they should be worn rather than kept locked away.. any advice would be greatly appreciated..

a 1972 Jaeger LeCoultre. I remember the ticking noise that it made.
