AS Ive commented before in some other posts, I would like to add a hand wound watch. Im looking for a dressy watch, so considering between the new 8 days Portofino, or the hand wound Portuguese.
I wonder how these two calibers compare each other. The new cal is coming from the 5000 family and the 98000 looks to me closer to the "old" pocket watches movements...
Am I right? What comments you have on these 2 mov. I see more appealing the 98000 ( aesthetically speaking...) but i really dont know if the new cal is over the 98000 technically speaking.

Hi Nacho,
we don't know how the new caliber performs in terms of reliability, accuracy etc. and still, there are too few detailed images about this movement.
Looking at the technical specifications, the new caliber appears to be superior in any respect but you've highlighted a good point (which is not technical) in favor of cal 98 and it's its ancestry; with its larger balance wheel, its 3/4 bridge, its regulator index etc. mostly recalls the typical architecture of an IWC pw.
I guess from this perspective, it's just a matter of taste.
In general, IWC considers the Cal. 59210 as a more modern movement: it has a date, a much longer power reserve, a power reserve indicator, a faster beat, etc.
IWC of course likes the Cal. 98xxx models, but generally considers than as pocket watch movements which have an historical foundation but aren't as modern. Personally I'm a traditionalist, but from a function perspective the new movement does represent excellent engineering.
IWC expects great things from the Cal. 59210, not only in terms of performance but as a foundation for a new chapter.

They're both appealing movements to me :)

I asked this question at SIHH.

So Michael...we could expect the new mov to be beating in most of the new products from now on.
What about any other feautures of the new calib ?
Does it have seconds hand stop or zero reset?
Thanks again for this interesting answers.
