Hi Dimitris,
Of course this is a very personal answer. I have not seen the new version in the flesh but did see the first one last week when I visited an AD. I must say it is a very beuatifull watch and the grey subdial gives is something special and different. I think that would be my choice but I probably would want to see them next to eachother first before making the decision.
Regards Norbert

Hi Dimitris,
I did see the 'old' model a few times with the grey subdial and I really like it. The gray is a nice contrast to me and red '60' pops-out nicely. Normally I don't like gold-colour, but on this one the gold-white dial-grey subdial is a great combination! The 'new' one I must admit took my breath away too! Classic, simpel, clean: a true old-style Portuguese!

Dimitris, I like last year's model with the dark subdial. And remember since IWC is moving away from different color subdials your watch will be unique. But its still a matter of taste...your taste, not mine.

Dimistris,
I agree 100% with Alan :)
Presuming (just presuming) cal 98xxx will be someday totally replaced by 59210 you might have a rarer watch in your hands.

If you are thinking from a collectors point of view I also think you should go for the 545405 rather than the hand wound, tough call they both look very IWC but the new hand wound looks slightly more appealing to me. Furthermore since I was given my first ever hand wound watch (non IWC) earlier this month I find winding my watch every day a very nice and bonding process.

Hi Dimitris,
In my opinion the newer model looks more like a classic. It's a dress watch so it needs to be subtle (IMHO). The gray sub dial threw that balance off for me. I was hopping this version of the watch was released so I could pick one up. I am not a fan of gold but in this watch it is done tastefully well. It's just my humble opinion. Good luck.

Hi Dimitris, Couple of weeks ago, I was considering to buy the HW ref IW545405 as my first IWC watch..although the watch has an absolute classic design with clear IWC hallmarks..the gray sub-dial, for me, was a bit too much.. In my case, I finally decided to have another style- the 3714 chronograph in gold, but, if I would need, I would probably do the same decision again.. therefore, my choice concerning your question would be the new one with the white sub-dial.. good luck with your decision.. Hi Dimitris, My suggestion is for you to try the 2 watches on your wrist and see which one you prefer. I tried the one with the grey dial and didn't like it. I agree with Nad that the grey dial is a bit too much.
As classic Portuguese dials, I prefer them to be the same colour. I thought the new dial on the IW5454 was a great revelation. Hope it helps.
it's really difficult for me to decide between Portuguese HW ref IW545405 and the new one without grey subdial.
Any ideas, opinions will be appreciated
Thank you in advance
Best regards
Dimitris

The Grey sub dial is nice, but from the first time I saw this watch I thought there was too much going on on the dial...........
White dial, Gold marker, Grey sub dial, Red accent!!!!
This is supposed to be a classic watch! Just my 2 cents ;-)
Cheers,
Nad
