Switzerland is the home to great beauty, the world’s best skiing and, of course, IWC. This week I am in Zermatt for a week of skiing. I ran into a fellow forum member here last night. What a small world.
I want to share with you some pictures that capture the beauty of this special ski town and the Swiss Alps as well as the required IWC shots to stay on topic here. I only brought one IWC this trip, the BP 5002. I have to tell you, I don’t ski with it. I wear a Swatch watch that serves as my ski-pass for the week (via a RF chip in the watch).
Frist some shots of Zermatt.
This is the view from my hotel balcony. I wake up to this each morning and come back after a day’s skiing for a different view. The Matterhorn is visible from almost everywhere in the village and is in the center of the most of the ski runs.
Literally, you ski right under the bottom of this Queen of the Alps.
Here is yours truly with the Queen of the Alps looming in the background.
Here is the view as you make your way down the piste:
When you take the tram to the top of the Klein Matterhorn, you look into Italy. This is the Italian side of the Matterhorn, or as they call it Mount Cervin. The structures in the foreground are the Plateau Rosa lifts and restaurant.
When the clouds roll in the view is spectacular.
Here is one of the gondolas, which ferry the skiers up the mountains. This one is going up the mountain as I ride down at the end of the day.
You have to take a break during the day of course for some libations. There is an Igloo resting hole on one of the runs. You walk through a tunnel to enter the eating area…typical Swiss, they have tunnels everywhere.
Once inside you can order Fondue or some hot, spicy red or white wine, Gluehwein.
I chained my daughter to a post.
I have my Gluehwien at my side, while sitting in one of the niches in the Igloo. There is a carved sun face looking over my shoulder. I look like Jabba the Hut here. : (.
At the end of the day, I take a leisurely walk back down the mountain into the village of Zermatt.
The stream is unfortunately fed by the melting glaciers, which are rapidly disappearing in Zermatt.
To keep this post on topic, I took a couple of shots of my BP today. At night, I wander by the various watch retailers who carry an impressive selection of IWC’s. I will get some pictures of those later.
What epitomizes CH more than IWC and Chocolate. Both here are sweet and hot.

Thanks for the great pictures. My wife and I took a day trip to Zermatt in early 1977. Your pictures brought back a nice group of memories. Linn Atlanta

Glad you snuck that pic of the BP in there as for a moment, I was lost in the "wide world of sports" montage. Gorgeous shots!
