lngtank Wrote:IWC 18K solid gold Pocket Watch, cal 95 I bought this watch 2year before. I tried to research it, and found very little information - based on the movement serial #, this watch dates to ca 1962, (Cal 95. its latest version)
However, I have not seen any other examples of this CARTIER dial IWC pocket watches.
Does anyone have any info on this IWC watches? Any catalog scans?
To my very humble opinion the watch is good in all of its parts, although, I repeat myself, I've never seen a sample in person nor known of a collaboration between IWC and Cartier regarding this reference.
I've seen several of these, as well as Calibre 85xx wristwatches with the Cartier signature on the dial. Back then, Cartier in the U.S. sold IWC watches and apparently requested its name on the dial.
I also heard from David Seyffer, the curator of IWC's Museum, who said (with a little editing) I checked the numbers in the records. Number of Movement and Case fit together; it is an Ref. 244. The watch was sold to Stern Frères in New York on 22.09.1967. They were a part of the Patek owners (Stern family). They were not only wholesalers for Patek, but also IWC and for Cartier. So probably the dial was marked later. In the records there is no evidence for marking the dial in Schaffhausen. But it is of course a IWC watch with a rare dial and shows the “distribution network” of IWC in the USA around the 1960ies.
I've never seen a pw like this in person but it surely looks like a ref 244, to tell the truth, the case back reports the number of the reference.
Here's a picture taken by the '66 catalogue:
and this is the link to the whole catalogue, contained inside the Vintage catalogue project web page, whose curator is our Michael:

It's a very nice watch!
