I've been talking to IWC executives, and a primary goal of the forum, as it should be, is enhanced content. We want more and better information here, period. Even if our archives and prior content is great, we can always do more and better. It also seems to me that this Forum compliments Facebook nicely --because the "deeper" or at least more extensive subjects can well be presented and discussed here.
I have some ideas, and so does IWC. But what would you like? Ideas would be welcomed, so fire away...

I think it would be great to have an enhanced workup of, special edition IWC watches. Every year there are all kinds of limited editions which most of us never hear about until they are sold out. I don't know what the mechanism is but there has to be a way to document these and discuss them on the Forum.

I would like to extend Alan's excellent suggestion to include all watches that are not a part of the current collection.
A huge job! But a start might be to move discontinued wathches from "Current collection" to a "Past collection" section of the website. That would not mean too much work. When a watch is moved to the Past collection section it would be interesting to have the data about years of production, numbers produced etc added the watch info.

A "Past Collections" section is an excellent idea and could start with all the models since 1993 - the year of the 125th Junilee, and work back all the way to the Jones over a period of five(ish) years. I fear, however, that this idea will be a non-starter, in view of IWC's current emphasis in the emerging markets, which may not be interested IWC's past, as some us are.

I do like Alan's and Henrik's ideas very much.
I also like what MF did sometime ago with his series of posts introducing the different Pocket Watches Calibers to the Forum. So inspired from the latter, what I think is that we could all go back to our school and college years through the IWC Forum. What I mean is that we could have been given some IWC related topics from MF to research and develop, e.g a Cal 59210 characteristics review, or the presentation of ref 5002 watch, then make some research in group studying or individually and present our results here in the Forum. It may take some time it is a hard thing to do given time and other personal constraints but we could end up digging something priceless out of Schaffhausen too if we are lucky and of course it will be fun. These "papers" can then be published on the Forum in a specific section. Internet will lift all distance related barriers and yes it will be fun. Who wouldn't want to work with Cellar or Clepsydra just to name a few.
Another thing we could have is our own Oscars (Jones') Awards here in the Forum. At the end of every year we could make this contest like the Oscars having nominations for:
Best Forum photograph of the year Best Forum post of the year Funniest Forum post of the year and so on.
I believe it ll draw attention and involvement and IWC prizes could be awarded to the winners too just to add some competitive spirit in all this.

It would be my wish to once again have access the previously available database of parts, references, etc even it the info in this database is edited by IWC to avoid sharing whatever info they thought was proprietary...diagrams of movements, etc. It was available to Collectors' Forum members for only a short period before the attorneys shut down access to it. We were given the password to access it. I may have the database name wrong, but I hope you all remember it.
For me it was very valuable source for researching all kinds of technical data on IWC references. If it could be restored to us at least in part, it would promote more accurate and knowledgeable discourse on the Forum.

I love Henrik's idea of posting data about years of production, numbers produced etc once watches are 10 years old, or at whatever age IWC feels it is appropriate to make such information available.

Hey Dick, if I recall the database site we were previously allowed to access (see my post above) provided this type info. I second your motion.

In addition to the other excellent suggestions, I would enjoy a regular feature from IWC that would highlight the different watches in the IWC Schaffhausen museum. Each feature might include a high quality photo, a brief discription of the watch, and its historical significance to the evolution of the company and its product.
Best regards, Jim

I suspect this is a pipe dream, however.
