Hi All,
I am new hear and just purchased a watch from a london AD. The watch is an IwC Portuguese 3714.
I am probably being neurotic but when I move my wrist I can hear what I think is the movement? It's quite a loud sound when near the ear. Is this acceptable ? Or should I be worried and return it?
I am also worried that due to this even though it's from An ad and have all cards box etc. How can I be 100% sure it genuine and not fault or replica movement?

Hello Nick,
Relax, it's completely normal for the movement to make that sound. If it's from an AD, you don't have to worry about authenticity either.
By the way, welcome to this great forum (the best IWC forum in the world) and congratulations on your Portuguese Chrono. Enjoy and wear it in good health.

Hi You should not be concerned if you purchased it from your AD. The sound you are describing sounds quite normal to me. You can locate the retailer using this site if you need reassurance about the ADs authenticity. Alternativly post a picture I know several people who use this site would spot a replica at one hundred metres. rgds Pete

Buying from an AD is as good as it gets; why would you be worried about a fake? The sound you hear will be the rotor moving (the oscillating weight in the movement that winds the watch automatically); quite often you can feel it moving too, "rotor wobble". Very common and very harmless. Relax and enjoy a great piece of craftmanship.

Thank you for the advise and help! Its just rather worrying that you purchase an expensive watch and can hear the movement and the "wobble" when on wrist. !! I am slightly concerned since this is the first real watch I have owned. I love it!
How do I post a picture? I brought it from central london and a dealer listed on this site so I should imagine its fine! but want to be safe so I'll post some pics if I am told how?

This is my preferred option for photo posting. We look forward to your pictures. Congratulations on your new IWC. As others have noted, what you hear and feel is absolutely normal. Just enjoy.

Also, can this watch be overwound?
Thanks, Nick
No. There is a clutch mechanism in the mainspring barrel that prevents overwinding (if you wind it manually, you will eventually hear the "click" of the clutch slipping).

Btw. What's the tolerance on this watch? It seems to gain about 7 seconds in about 8 hours?
Thanks

That's too much, I'll take it back to the AD if it was my watch.
