I'm 40. I dont wear a watch since I had my first mobile back in 1997. I never paid attention to watches until now when I really feel the need to wear a watch, a real watch. First I thought about TAG, then it was Rolex until my golf teacher, a good watches connaisseur, told me a man with style would never wear a Rolex. Then I discovered by casuality a new brand to me called IWC, and here I am.
I feel like having just one watch and here is my big doubt. I'm in love with the pilot's 371701 and the Portuguese 500109 which price is much higher. Also the portuguese 371438 seems to be an intermediate choice.
Any idea of which model is better to be your only watch forever?.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, I was presented with a similar conundrum and decided to go with the 5001 but I think you are kidding yourself if you think this will be your only IWC :) once you dip your toe in, it is very easy to fall in above your ears . . .
Cheers,
Ben

Ha-ha I couldn't agree with you more, Ben. Once you feel that steel and leather strap on your wrist, there is no looking back. 5001 for me. Hopefully you try them all on before deciding. Best of luck to you!

Buying a good watch runs a high risk of catching a virulent disease, the symptoms include punishment to your wallet and a little gremlin telling you that you haven't got enough watches. There is no known cure. The only benefits are that you will learn that it's not debilitating nor terminal but brings a happy smile and a search for the next one! Enjoy the disease, it's cheaper than gambling and less harmful than smoking or drinking to excess!

I did a lot of search when I wanted to buy my first (an presently the only) IWC watch. When i walked to the showroom, i was swept by the watch i saw. with my family at my side, it was a unanimous choice when i picked up the beauty. We still re-live the moment, nearly everyday. I would suggest you should see your requirement, like would you want a day/ date/ year option, etc. The 5001 is CLASSIC. No doubts. It will be everyone's favorite, and Ben is right, it could be your first, but not the last for sure. The watch & brand grows on you. And you will love it. mk
