In my opinion it's because of the different lunette, which is a bit thicker at the TopGun. It's the same effect like when you compare the "old" TopGun Double with the BP 5004. Both have 46mm but a different lunette. By the way, I'm absolutely impressed about the new pilot's line up - breathtaking!

Would be good to know the lengths of the two watches, measured from the end of one lug to the other. I think this will truly tell how the 48mm would wear on the wrist compared to the 46mm. The photo suggests the lug-to-lug length on the 48mm is longer and the bezel thicker than the 46mm.

Thanks MF for this side by side comparison shot. Indeed, something to look forward to - to actually trying this 48mm on the wrist on Thursday to see if it works for me.
Having said that, I'm not to concerned. There are so many new and nice Pilots in this years roundup, that there is something for everyone ( including one or two for me too!).

Mark, I am sure you can't wear a 48mm watch, even if it looks smaller than it actually is:-) That's one for me, not you:-))

If you look carefully at the ceramic version there appears to be a 1mm additional ceramic ring around the watch which adds the the additional 2mm. I surmise that the ceramic needs to be more robust at this point of contact. And of course black makes it look smaller. All in all, exactly what we have been asking for.
I'll let the photo speak for itself.

It might be the black case, make it looks smaller than 48.
I believe the lug size is the same. It would be great to have a photo with the BP leather strap on the new BP
Thanks the gang in Genvea to keep us informed
