Dear members,
I've been looking for a Golf Club for some time. In an older post here, Michael Friedberg, indicated that an IWC Golf Club SL always features a steel bracelet while Golf Club Automatics have leather straps. However, I've seen many Golf Clubs with a strap and the "SL" on the dial. Does that mean that either the dial or the steel bracelet was replaced? Or, does anybody know if some of the Golf Club SL models were indeed delivered with leather straps?
I've attached the dealer sheets for Golf Club reference 1829 and 1830 from 1980.
The sheets show the Ref 1829 (with strap) without SL either as part of the details or on the dial of the image show. The Ref 1830 (with steel bracelet) has both SL as part of the detail and is also shown on the dial. The same details also apply to the Ref 1929 and 1930 (without date).
To me, this give credence to the SL meaning "steel line".
The above does not preclude Golf Club SL being delivered with staps during the quartz boom, as IWC would have regarded any sale as a good sale, and there is also the possibility that the bracelet was changed for a strap at the customers request when sold by the dealer.
Michael --when you posted the identical query here in another string, I replied there as follows, and I guess need to repeat that reply here:
"Michael --did I say that? I don't recall, but in all events I recall seeing the earlier SL models with bracelets (and adverstising literature showing that) but I also recall some later SL models with leather straps. "

It seems possible since I own a Yacht Club (with an extract from the archives) with a Beyer dial. I saw the one which was sold yesterday (I believe it did not have any paperwork).
