Hi Vonrozen, Last year, one of my watchmakers asked Mr. Kurt Klaus what was his all-time favourite IWC movement. He replied calibre 89..... You couldn't wish for a better endorsement of your watch. Leo
Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.....Confucius
As I replied when you wrote me on this watch "The dial looks frankly awful, which doesn't predict well for the movement"
In principle the calibre 89 movement is great, but I wouldn't touch a watch like this with a ten foot pole. Dials like this don't spot magically, but usually due to humidity seeping in and other adverse conditions, and also neglect in storage. Yes, you could replace the dial and, yes, if there's no rust the movement can be easily overhauled --but what sort of bargain are you getting then? Particularly if you can find one in much better condition for perhaps an added 400 GBP.
I respectfully disagree with Leosweeneypod --the calibre 89 is a nice design and can work great, but that doesn't make this watch great. It's like saying BMW is a great car, but showing me one that is old, dented and rusted...yes, BMW makes good engines, but that doesn't matter if the car is a wreck.
I'm not sure why you keep pursuing this, with multiple posts here and on at least one other site, plus e-mailing me, etc. There are better watches.
How would you rate this watch ? I think the crown is replaced, there is patina, it is valued at 400 £. ALL OPINION APPRECIATED !
Thank you very much
Alexander
