I know: it is incedible - but it is true: My new Ingenieur automatic AMG Titanium (bought Februar 2012 from an AD) squeals at each windig up motion - it squeals like a tiny little mouse. First I did not realize that this faint noise I often heard comes from my beloved IWC-timepiece, but then I held it to my ear and moved - and it does squeal - not loud but quite clear! What to do? Can it damage my watch? Or is it quite a common IWC winding up sound, well known to all but me? Please help and tell me what you think about it. Thanks, regards, Lutz

brilliantly executed :) fantastic and congratulations Lutz.
If it is the same sound that is typical of IWC pieces with the Pellaton automatic winding system (when u move it around), then I don't think your timepiece is any worse because of the sound.

There is some sound as the winding mechanism moves, but we can't evaluate that electronically via the Net. I suggest you pay a visit to your dealer who can listen and help. It doesn't sound serious and if anything a dab of oil might be needed.

Thank you Michael, thank you Shing ! You helped me a so much. I even was afraid it is broken but now I am relaxed again.
Tomorrow I shall visit my AD in Winterthur and let him listen to my little Micky Mouse inside my Ingenieur - he will tell me whether to feed it or not and if I have to what it likes to eat. I will report to you what he told me then and perhaps it likes cheese more than bacon.

Lutz, I would phone the factory and ask whether they lost a mouse a few years back? Clearly the company cat did not do his job properly! Failing that contact Disney to see whether they ordered a special Ingie but only got a standard model by mistake.

Greg, that`s an excellent idea indeed. I see I`ll be busy for a while. My next contacts: AD, factory, Disney in exactly this order.
Did anybody ever hold a Saint Exupery or a KK near to his ear and listen? Wonder what would sound out of those! I wouldn`t put it past IWC. And it would show the prices in a complete new light. Just kidding :-)).

My 3717 sounded like a Merlin engine and when I went and checked my two Portuguese models one has gone a tawny colour and the other has declared itself a vintage.

Lutz, horror of horrors!
Now, let me assure you that your post has definately succeeded at one thing....
.....I hear it - I hear it!
I've now spent the better half of the evening to hear what is to hear. Well what I learnt, is scary! Clearly, my collection is lacking. I believe I definately have got 2 watches that purr (strangely enough both are PD's) However, none of my watches squeal and no Merlin roars etc.

Back again from the AD. First he listened to the noise after setting the winder in motion. "That sounds really very bad - I never heard something like this before!" he said. He opened the casing but could not find the reason for the noise. "I must send it to IWC Schaffhausen - it will take about 4 or 5 weeks - I will give you a call then." Too bad.
